Early in the morning Abraham got up, took bread and a waterskin, put them on Hagar’s shoulders, and sent her and the boy away. She left and wandered in the Wilderness of Beer-sheba.

Early the next morning Abraham took some food and a skin of water and gave them to Hagar. He set them on her shoulders and then sent her off with the boy. She went on her way and wandered in the Desert of Beersheba.

Israel set out with all that he had and came to Beer-sheba, and he offered sacrifices to the God of his father Isaac.

But the one by the slave was born as a result of the flesh, while the one by the free woman was born through promise.These things are being taken figuratively, for the women represent two covenants. One is from Mount Sinai and bears children into slavery— this is Hagar.Now Hagar represents Mount Sinai in Arabia and corresponds to the present Jerusalem, for she is in slavery with her children.

So Abraham got up early in the morning, saddled his donkey, and took with him two of his young men and his son Isaac. He split wood for a burnt offering and set out to go to the place God had told him about.

For Heshbon’s terraced vineyards and the grapevines of Sibmah have withered. The rulers of the nations have trampled its choice vines that reached as far as Jazer and spread to the desert. Their shoots spread out and reached the sea.

Therefore that place was called Beer-sheba because it was there that the two of them swore an oath.

Abraham planted a tamarisk tree in Beer-sheba, and there he called on the name of the LORD, the Everlasting God.

A slave does not remain in the household forever, but a son does remain forever.

I hurried, not hesitating to keep your commands.

The angel of the LORD found her by a spring in the wilderness, the spring on the way to Shur.

Abraham went back to his young men, and they got up and went together to Beer-sheba. And Abraham settled in Beer-sheba.

Then he and the men with him ate and drank and spent the night. When they got up in the morning, he said,“ Send me to my master.”
