Now Abraham moved on from there into the region of the Negev and lived between Kadesh and Shur. For a while he stayed in Gerar,

A severe famine now struck the land, as had happened before in Abraham’s time. So Isaac moved to Gerar, where Abimelech, king of the Philistines, lived.

The Lord appeared again to Abraham near the oak grove belonging to Mamre. One day Abraham was sitting at the entrance to his tent during the hottest part of the day.

So that well was named Beer lahai roi( which means“ well of the Living One who sees me”). It can still be found between Kadesh and Bered.

Now Sarai, Abram’s wife, had not been able to bear children for him. But she had an Egyptian servant named Hagar.

The angel of the Lord found Hagar beside a spring of water in the wilderness, along the road to Shur.

and the territory of Canaan extended from Sidon in the north to Gerar and Gaza in the south, and east as far as Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboiim, near Lasha.

One day King Abimelech came from Gerar with his adviser, Ahuzzath, and also Phicol, his army commander.

to Moses, Aaron, and the whole community of Israel at Kadesh in the wilderness of Paran. They reported to the whole community what they had seen and showed them the fruit they had taken from the land.

Then Saul slaughtered the Amalekites from Havilah all the way to Shur, east of Egypt.

As a result, a vast amount of plunder was taken from these towns, too.

So Abram left Egypt and traveled north into the Negev, along with his wife and Lot and all that they owned.

Then they turned back and came to En mishpat( now called Kadesh) and conquered all the territory of the Amalekites, and also the Amorites living in Hazazon tamar.

The voice of the Lord makes the barren wilderness quake; the Lord shakes the wilderness of Kadesh.

But then the shepherds from Gerar came and claimed the spring.“ This is our water,” they said, and they argued over it with Isaac’s herdsmen. So Isaac named the well Esek( which means“ argument”).

Meanwhile, Isaac, whose home was in the Negev, had returned from Beer lahai roi.
