然後耶和華說：「控告所多瑪和格摩拉的呼聲非常大，他們的罪惡極其深重；

他們的腳步為殺人流血而飛快，

圖謀惡計的心、奔向惡事的腳、

祭司長們和長老們挑唆眾人，叫他們要巴拉巴，而除滅耶穌。總督問他們，說：「這兩個人中，你們要我給你們釋放哪一個呢？」他們回答說：「巴拉巴！」彼拉多對他們說：「那麼，我該怎麼處理這稱為基督的耶穌呢？」他們都說：「把他釘上十字架！」彼拉多說：「他到底做了什麼惡事呢？」但他們卻越發喊叫說：「把他釘上十字架！」彼拉多知道自己無濟於事，反而騷亂倒要發生，就拿水在眾人面前洗手，說：「流這人的血，罪不在我，你們自己看著辦吧！」全體民眾都回答說：「他的血歸在我們和我們兒女的身上！」
