The other men turned and headed toward Sodom, but the Lord remained with Abraham.

That evening the two angels came to the entrance of the city of Sodom. Lot was sitting there, and when he saw them, he stood up to meet them. Then he welcomed them and bowed with his face to the ground.

The angel of the Lord appeared to Manoah’s wife and said,“ Even though you have been unable to have children, you will soon become pregnant and give birth to a son.

This left Jacob all alone in the camp, and a man came and wrestled with him until the dawn began to break.

When Joshua was near the town of Jericho, he looked up and saw a man standing in front of him with sword in hand. Joshua went up to him and demanded,“ Are you friend or foe?”

For your son will be dedicated to God as a Nazirite from the moment of his birth until the day of his death.’”Then Manoah prayed to the Lord, saying,“ Lord, please let the man of God come back to us again and give us more instructions about this son who is to be born.”God answered Manoah’s prayer, and the angel of God appeared once again to his wife as she was sitting in the field. But her husband, Manoah, was not with her.So she quickly ran and told her husband,“ The man who appeared to me the other day is here again!”Manoah ran back with his wife and asked,“ Are you the man who spoke to my wife the other day?”“ Yes,” he replied,“ I am.”

Then Jacob went on ahead. As he approached his brother, he bowed to the ground seven times before him.Then Esau ran to meet him and embraced him, threw his arms around his neck, and kissed him. And they both wept.Then Esau looked at the women and children and asked,“ Who are these people with you?”“ These are the children God has graciously given to me, your servant,” Jacob replied.Then the servant wives came forward with their children and bowed before him.Next came Leah with her children, and they bowed before him. Finally, Joseph and Rachel came forward and bowed before him.

Ruth fell at his feet and thanked him warmly.“ What have I done to deserve such kindness?” she asked.“ I am only a foreigner.”

When the group of prophets from Jericho saw from a distance what happened, they exclaimed,“ Elijah’s spirit rests upon Elisha!” And they went to meet him and bowed to the ground before him.

When God’s people are in need, be ready to help them. Always be eager to practice hospitality.
