God also said to him,“ I am God Almighty. Be fruitful and multiply. A nation, indeed an assembly of nations, will come from you, and kings will descend from you.

I will make you extremely fruitful and will make nations and kings come from you.

I will make you into a great nation, I will bless you, I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing.

The LORD said,“ I will certainly come back to you in about a year’s time, and your wife Sarah will have a son!” Now Sarah was listening at the entrance of the tent behind him.Abraham and Sarah were old and getting on in years. Sarah had passed the age of childbearing.So she laughed to herself:“ After I am worn out and my lord is old, will I have delight?”But the LORD asked Abraham,“ Why did Sarah laugh, saying,‘ Can I really have a baby when I’m old?’Is anything impossible for the LORD? At the appointed time I will come back to you, and in about a year she will have a son.”

For this is the statement of the promise: At this time I will come, and Sarah will have a son.

just as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord. You have become her children when you do what is good and do not fear any intimidation.

But the Jerusalem above is free, and she is our mother.For it is written, Rejoice, childless woman, unable to give birth. Burst into song and shout, you who are not in labor, for the children of the desolate woman will be many, more numerous than those of the woman who has a husband.Now you too, brothers and sisters, like Isaac, are children of promise.But just as then the child born as a result of the flesh persecuted the one born as a result of the Spirit, so also now.But what does the Scripture say?“ Drive out the slave and her son, for the son of the slave will never be a coheir with the son of the free woman.”Therefore, brothers and sisters, we are not children of a slave but of the free woman.

God blessed them, and God said to them,“ Be fruitful, multiply, fill the earth, and subdue it. Rule the fish of the sea, the birds of the sky, and every creature that crawls on the earth.”

They blessed Rebekah, saying to her: Our sister, may you become thousands upon ten thousands. May your offspring possess the city gates of their enemies.

Kings will be your guardians and their queens your nursing mothers. They will bow down to you with their faces to the ground and lick the dust at your feet. Then you will know that I am the LORD; those who put their hope in me will not be put to shame.
