I will bless her and will surely give you a son by her. I will bless her so that she will be the mother of nations; kings of peoples will come from her.”

神對他說：“我是全能的神，你要繁衍增多，必有一國和眾國從你而生，又必有很多君王從你而出。

我要使你極其昌盛，國度因你而立，君王必從你而出。

我必使你成為大國，賜福給你，使你的名為大，你也必使別人得福，

其中一位說：“到明年這個時候，我必回到你這裡來。那時，你的妻子撒拉必生一個兒子。”撒拉在那人後面的帳棚門口，也聽見了這話。當時，亞伯拉罕和撒拉都老了，上了年紀，撒拉的月經也停止了。撒拉心裡暗笑，說：“現在我已經衰老了，我的丈夫也老了，我還有房事的樂趣嗎？”耶和華對亞伯拉罕說：“撒拉為甚麼暗笑說：‘我已經老了，真的還能生育嗎？’耶和華豈有難成的事嗎？到明年這個時候，我要回到你這裡來，那時，撒拉必生一個兒子。”

因為所應許的話是這樣：“明年這個時候我要來，撒拉必定生一個兒子。”

像撒拉聽從亞伯拉罕，稱他為主一樣；你們若行善，不怕任何恐嚇，就是撒拉的女兒了。

那在上面的耶路撒冷是自由的，她是我們的母親，因為經上記著說：“不能生育、沒有生養的啊，你要歡欣！沒有受過生產痛苦的啊，你要呼喊，大聲呼叫！因為棄婦比有夫之婦有更多兒子。”可是，弟兄們，你們是按著應許作兒女的，好像以撒一樣。不過，當時那按著肉體生的，迫害那按著聖靈生的，現在也是這樣。然而經上怎樣說呢？“把婢女和她的兒子趕出去，因為婢女的兒子，絕對不可以和自由的婦人的兒子一同承受產業。”所以，弟兄們，我們不是婢女的兒女，而是自由的婦人的兒女了。

神就賜福給他們，對他們說：“要繁衍增多，充滿這地，征服它；也要管理海裡的魚、空中的鳥和地上所有走動的生物。”

他們給利百加祝福，對她說：“我們的妹妹啊，願你作千萬人之母；願你的後裔，佔領仇敵的城門。”

列國的君王要作你的養父，他們的王后必作你的保姆；他們必臉伏於地向你下拜，舐你腳上的塵土。那麼，你就知道我是耶和華，那些仰望我的決不會羞愧。”
