I will greatly multiply your descendants,” the LORD’s angel added,“ so that they will be too numerous to count.”

The angel added,“ I will increase your descendants so much that they will be too numerous to count.”

The angel continued,“ I will give you and your family many children. There will be more of them than anyone can count.”

The angel of the Lord also said to her,“ I will surely multiply your offspring so that they cannot be numbered for multitude.”

Then he added,“ I will give you more descendants than you can count.”

The angel of the LORD said to her,“ I will greatly multiply your offspring, and they will be too many to count.”

Then the Angel of the Lord said to her,“ I will multiply your descendants exceedingly, so that they shall not be counted for multitude.”

And the angel of Jehovah said unto her, I will greatly multiply thy seed, that it shall not be numbered for multitude.

The Angel of the Lord also said to her,“ I will greatly multiply your offspring, and they will be too many to count.”

And the angel of the LORD said unto her, I will multiply thy seed exceedingly, that it shall not be numbered for multitude.

Yahweh’s angel said to her,“ I will greatly multiply your offspring, that they will not be counted for multitude.”

As for Ishmael, I have heard you. I will indeed bless him, make him fruitful, and give him a multitude of descendants. He will become the father of twelve princes; I will make him into a great nation.

It includes the tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites, Moab and the Hagrites,Gebal, Ammon, and Amalek, Philistia and the inhabitants of Tyre.

But I will also make the son of the slave wife into a great nation, for he is your descendant too.”

The LORD’s angel called to Abraham a second time from heavenand said,“‘ I solemnly swear by my own name,’ decrees the LORD,‘ that because you have done this and have not withheld your son, your only son,I will indeed bless you, and I will greatly multiply your descendants so that they will be as countless as the stars in the sky or the grains of sand on the seashore. Your descendants will take possession of the strongholds of their enemies.Because you have obeyed me, all the nations of the earth will pronounce blessings on one another using the name of your descendants.’”

This is the account of Abraham’s son Ishmael, whom Hagar the Egyptian, Sarah’s servant, bore to Abraham.These are the names of Ishmael’s sons, by their names according to their records: Nebaioth( Ishmael’s firstborn), Kedar, Adbeel, Mibsam,Mishma, Dumah, Massa,Hadad, Tema, Jetur, Naphish, and Kedemah.These are the sons of Ishmael, and these are their names by their settlements and their camps– twelve princes according to their clans.Ishmael lived a total of 137 years. He breathed his last and died; then he joined his ancestors.His descendants settled from Havilah to Shur, which runs next to Egypt all the way to Asshur. They settled away from all their relatives.

Get up! Help the boy up and hold him by the hand, for I will make him into a great nation.”

No one has ever seen God. The only one, himself God, who is in closest fellowship with the Father, has made God known.

Then he blessed Joseph and said,“ May the God before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac walked– the God who has been my shepherd all my life long to this day,the Angel who has protected me from all harm– bless these boys. May my name be named in them, and the name of my fathers Abraham and Isaac. May they grow into a multitude on the earth.”

In the womb he attacked his brother; in his manly vigor he struggled with God.He struggled with an angel and prevailed; he wept and begged for his favor. He found God at Bethel, and there he spoke with him!As for the LORD God Almighty, the LORD is the name by which he is remembered!

Then she went and sat down by herself across from him at quite a distance, about a bowshot away; for she thought,“ I refuse to watch the child die.” So she sat across from him and wept uncontrollably.

Through all that they suffered, he suffered too. The messenger sent from his very presence delivered them. In his love and mercy he protected them; he lifted them up and carried them throughout ancient times.

The LORD’s messenger said to Manoah,“ If I stay, I will not eat your food. But if you want to make a burnt sacrifice to the LORD, you should offer it.”( He said this because Manoah did not know that he was the LORD’s messenger.)Manoah said to the LORD’s messenger,“ Tell us your name, so we can honor you when your announcement comes true.”The LORD’s messenger said to him,“ You should not ask me my name, because you cannot comprehend it.”Manoah took a young goat and a grain offering and offered them on a rock to the LORD. The LORD’s messenger did an amazing thing as Manoah and his wife watched.As the flame went up from the altar toward the sky, the LORD’s messenger went up in it while Manoah and his wife watched. They fell facedown to the ground.The LORD’s messenger did not appear again to Manoah and his wife. After all this happened Manoah realized that the visitor had been the LORD’s messenger.Manoah said to his wife,“ We will certainly die, because we have seen a supernatural being!”

For the LORD who rules over all says to me that for his own glory he has sent me to the nations that plundered you– for anyone who touches you touches the pupil of his eye.“ I am about to punish them in such a way,” he says,“ that they will be looted by their own slaves.” Then you will know that the LORD who rules over all has sent me.

The LORD’s angelic messenger went up from Gilgal to Bokim. He said,“ I brought you up from Egypt and led you into the land I had solemnly promised to give to your ancestors. I said,‘ I will never break my agreement with you,but you must not make an agreement with the people who live in this land. You should tear down the altars where they worship.’ But you have disobeyed me. Why would you do such a thing?At that time I also warned you,‘ If you disobey, I will not drive out the Canaanites before you. They will ensnare you and their gods will lure you away.’”

The LORD’s messenger touched the meat and the unleavened bread with the tip of his staff. Fire flared up from the rock and consumed the meat and unleavened bread. The LORD’s messenger then disappeared.When Gideon realized that it was the LORD’s messenger, he said,“ Oh no! Master, LORD! I have seen the LORD’s messenger face to face!”The LORD said to him,“ You are safe! Do not be afraid! You are not going to die!”Gideon built an altar for the LORD there, and named it“ The LORD is on friendly terms with me.” To this day it is still there in Ophrah of the Abiezrites.

The LORD’s angelic messenger came and sat down under the oak tree in Ophrah owned by Joash the Abiezrite. He arrived while Joash’s son Gideon was threshing wheat in a winepress so he could hide it from the Midianites.

So Jacob was left alone. Then a man wrestled with him until daybreak.When the man saw that he could not defeat Jacob, he struck the socket of his hip so the socket of Jacob’s hip was dislocated while he wrestled with him.Then the man said,“ Let me go, for the dawn is breaking.”“ I will not let you go,” Jacob replied,“ unless you bless me.”The man asked him,“ What is your name?” He answered,“ Jacob.”“ No longer will your name be Jacob,” the man told him,“ but Israel, because you have fought with God and with men and have prevailed.”Then Jacob asked,“ Please tell me your name.”“ Why do you ask my name?” the man replied. Then he blessed Jacob there.So Jacob named the place Peniel, explaining,“ Certainly I have seen God face to face and have survived.”

The LORD said to him,“ Ah, but I will be with you! You will strike down the whole Midianite army.”

The angel of the LORD appeared to him in a flame of fire from within a bush. He looked– and the bush was ablaze with fire, but it was not being consumed!So Moses thought,“ I will turn aside to see this amazing sight. Why does the bush not burn up?”When the LORD saw that he had turned aside to look, God called to him from within the bush and said,“ Moses, Moses!” And Moses said,“ Here I am.”God said,“ Do not approach any closer! Take your sandals off your feet, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.”He added,“ I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.” Then Moses hid his face, because he was afraid to look at God.

In the dream the angel of God said to me,‘ Jacob!’‘ Here I am!’ I replied.Then he said,‘ Observe that all the male goats mating with the flock are streaked, speckled, or spotted, for I have observed all that Laban has done to you.I am the God of Bethel, where you anointed the sacred stone and made a vow to me. Now leave this land immediately and return to your native land.’”

“ After forty years had passed, an angel appeared to him in the desert of Mount Sinai, in the flame of a burning bush.When Moses saw it, he was amazed at the sight, and when he approached to investigate, there came the voice of the Lord,‘ I am the God of your forefathers, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.’ Moses began to tremble and did not dare to look more closely.But the Lord said to him,‘ Take the sandals off your feet, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.I have certainly seen the suffering of my people who are in Egypt and have heard their groaning, and I have come down to rescue them. Now come, I will send you to Egypt.’This same Moses they had rejected, saying,‘ Who made you a ruler and judge?’ God sent as both ruler and deliverer through the hand of the angel who appeared to him in the bush.This man led them out, performing wonders and miraculous signs in the land of Egypt, at the Red Sea, and in the wilderness for forty years.This is the Moses who said to the Israelites,‘ God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your brothers.’This is the man who was in the congregation in the wilderness with the angel who spoke to him at Mount Sinai, and with our ancestors, and he received living oracles to give to you.

“ I am about to send my messenger, who will clear the way before me. Indeed, the Lord you are seeking will suddenly come to his temple, and the messenger of the covenant, whom you long for, is certainly coming,” says the LORD who rules over all.

He alone possesses immortality and lives in unapproachable light, whom no human has ever seen or is able to see. To him be honor and eternal power! Amen.
