Moreover, the Lord provided great and terrible signs and wonders before our eyes against Egypt, Pharaoh, and all his household;

“ You saw the affliction of our fathers in Egypt, And heard their cry by the Red Sea.Then You performed signs and wonders against Pharaoh, Against all his servants and all the people of his land; For You knew that they acted arrogantly toward them, And You made a name for Yourself as it is this day.You divided the sea before them, So they passed through the midst of the sea on dry ground; And You hurled their pursuers into the depths, Like a stone into raging waters.

But the Lord has taken you and brought you out of the iron furnace, from Egypt, to be a people of His own possession, as today.

So Israel set out with all that he had, and came to Beersheba, and offered sacrifices to the God of his father Isaac.And God spoke to Israel in visions of the night and said,“ Jacob, Jacob.” And he said,“ Here I am.”Then He said,“ I am God, the God of your father; do not be afraid to go down to Egypt, for I will make you into a great nation there.I will go down with you to Egypt, and I will also assuredly bring you up again; and Joseph will close your eyes.”Then Jacob left Beersheba, and the sons of Israel carried their father Jacob and their little ones and their wives in the wagons which Pharaoh had sent to carry him.They also took their livestock and their possessions, which they had acquired in the land of Canaan, and came to Egypt, Jacob and all his descendants with him:his sons and his grandsons with him, his daughters and his granddaughters, and all his descendants he brought with him to Egypt.Now these are the names of the sons of Israel who went to Egypt, Jacob and his sons: Reuben, Jacob’s firstborn.And the sons of Reuben: Hanoch, Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi.And the sons of Simeon: Jemuel, Jamin, Ohad, Jachin, Zohar, and Shaul the son of a Canaanite woman.And the sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.And the sons of Judah: Er, Onan, Shelah, Perez, and Zerah( but Er and Onan died in the land of Canaan). And the sons of Perez were Hezron and Hamul.And the sons of Issachar: Tola, Puvvah, Iob, and Shimron.And the sons of Zebulun: Sered, Elon, and Jahleel.These are the sons of Leah, whom she bore to Jacob in Paddan aram, with his daughter Dinah; all his sons and his daughters numbered thirty three.And the sons of Gad: Ziphion, Haggi, Shuni, Ezbon, Eri, Arodi, and Areli.And the sons of Asher: Imnah, Ishvah, Ishvi, Beriah, and their sister Serah. And the sons of Beriah: Heber and Malchiel.These are the sons of Zilpah, whom Laban gave to his daughter Leah; and she bore to Jacob these sixteen persons.The sons of Jacob’s wife Rachel: Joseph and Benjamin.Now to Joseph in the land of Egypt were born Manasseh and Ephraim, whom Asenath, the daughter of Potiphera, priest of On, bore to him.And the sons of Benjamin: Bela, Becher, Ashbel, Gera, Naaman, Ehi, Rosh, Muppim, Huppim, and Ard.These are the sons of Rachel, who were born to Jacob; there were fourteen persons in all.And the sons of Dan: Hushim.And the sons of Naphtali: Jahzeel, Guni, Jezer, and Shillem.These are the sons of Bilhah, whom Laban gave to his daughter Rachel, and she bore these to Jacob; there were seven persons in all.All the people belonging to Jacob, who came to Egypt, his direct descendants, not including the wives of Jacob’s sons, were sixty six persons in all,and the sons of Joseph, who were born to him in Egypt, were two; all the people of the house of Jacob, who came to Egypt, were seventy.Now Jacob sent Judah ahead of him to Joseph, to guide him to Goshen; and they came into the land of Goshen.And Joseph prepared his chariot and went up to Goshen to meet his father Israel; as soon as he appeared to him, Joseph threw himself on his neck and wept on his neck a long time.Then Israel said to Joseph,“ Now let me die, since I have seen your face, that you are still alive.”But Joseph said to his brothers and to his father’s household,“ I will go up and tell Pharaoh, and will say to him,‘ My brothers and my father’s household, who were in the land of Canaan, have come to me;and the men are shepherds, for they have been keepers of livestock; and they have brought their flocks and their herds and all that they have.’When Pharaoh calls for you and says,‘ What is your occupation?’you shall say,‘ Your servants have been keepers of livestock since our youth even until now, both we and our fathers,’ so that you may live in the land of Goshen; for every shepherd is an abomination to the Egyptians.”

Then the Lord said to Moses,“ See, I have made you as God to Pharaoh, and your brother Aaron shall be your prophet.As for you, you shall speak all that I command you, and your brother Aaron shall speak to Pharaoh that he let the sons of Israel go out of his land.But I will harden Pharaoh’s heart, so that I may multiply My signs and My wonders in the land of Egypt.When Pharaoh does not listen to you, I will lay My hand on Egypt and bring out My armies, My people the sons of Israel, from the land of Egypt by great judgments.Then the Egyptians shall know that I am the Lord, when I extend My hand over Egypt and bring out the sons of Israel from their midst.”So Moses and Aaron did this; as the Lord commanded them, so they did.And Moses was eighty years old and Aaron eighty three, when they spoke to Pharaoh.Now the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying,“ When Pharaoh speaks to you, saying,‘ Work a miracle,’ then you shall say to Aaron,‘ Take your staff and throw it down before Pharaoh, so that it may turn into a serpent.’ ”So Moses and Aaron came to Pharaoh, and so they did, just as the Lord had commanded; and Aaron threw his staff down before Pharaoh and his servants, and it turned into a serpent.Then Pharaoh also called for the wise men and the sorcerers, and they too, the soothsayer priests of Egypt, did the same with their secret arts.For each one threw down his staff, and they turned into serpents. But Aaron’s staff swallowed their staffs.Yet Pharaoh’s heart was hardened, and he did not listen to them, just as the Lord had said.Then the Lord said to Moses,“ Pharaoh’s heart is stubborn; he refuses to let the people go.

I will grant this people favor in the sight of the Egyptians; and it shall be that when you go, you will not go empty handed.But every woman shall ask her neighbor and the woman who lives in her house for articles of silver and articles of gold, and clothing; and you will put them on your sons and daughters. So you will plunder the Egyptians.”

Take both your flocks and your herds, as you have said, and go, and bless me also.”The Egyptians urged the people, to send them out of the land in a hurry, for they said,“ We will all be dead.”So the people took their dough before it was leavened, with their kneading bowls bound up in the clothes on their shoulders.Now the sons of Israel had done according to the word of Moses, for they had requested from the Egyptians articles of silver and articles of gold, and clothing;and the Lord had given the people favor in the sight of the Egyptians, so that they let them have their request. Therefore they plundered the Egyptians.Now the sons of Israel journeyed from Rameses to Succoth, about six hundred thousand men on foot, aside from children.A mixed multitude also went up with them, along with flocks and herds, a very large number of livestock.

To Isaac I gave Jacob and Esau, and to Esau I gave Mount Seir, to possess it; but Jacob and his sons went down to Egypt.Then I sent Moses and Aaron, and I plagued Egypt by what I did in its midst; and afterward I brought you out.So I brought your fathers out of Egypt, and you came to the sea; and Egypt pursued your fathers with chariots and horsemen to the Red Sea.But when they cried out to the Lord, He put darkness between you and the Egyptians, and brought the sea upon them and covered them; and your own eyes saw what I did in Egypt. And you lived in the wilderness for a long time.

Furthermore I have heard the groaning of the sons of Israel, because the Egyptians are holding them in bondage, and I have remembered My covenant.Say, therefore, to the sons of Israel,‘ I am the Lord, and I will bring you out from under the labors of the Egyptians, and I will rescue you from their bondage. I will also redeem you with an outstretched arm, and with great judgments.

When Jacob went into Egypt and your fathers cried out to the Lord, then the Lord sent Moses and Aaron who brought your fathers out of Egypt and settled them in this place.

Know this day that I am not speaking with your sons who have not known and who have not seen the discipline of the Lord your God— His greatness, His mighty hand, His outstretched arm,and His signs and His works which He did in the midst of Egypt to Pharaoh the king of Egypt and to all his land;and what He did to Egypt’s army, to its horses and its chariots, when He made the water of the Red Sea engulf them while they were pursuing you, and the Lord completely eliminated them;

you are not to be afraid of them; you shall remember well what the Lord your God did to Pharaoh and to all Egypt:the great trials which your eyes saw and the signs and the wonders, and the mighty hand and the outstretched arm by which the Lord your God brought you out. The Lord your God will do the same to all the peoples of whom you are afraid.

for the Lord our God is He who brought us and our fathers up out of the land of Egypt, from the house of slaves, and did these great signs in our sight and watched over us through all the way in which we went and among all the peoples through whose midst we passed.

They performed His wondrous acts among them, And miracles in the land of Ham.He sent darkness and made it dark; And they did not rebel against His words.He turned their waters into blood, And caused their fish to die.Their land swarmed with frogs Even in the chambers of their kings.He spoke, and a swarm of flies And gnats invaded all their territory.He gave them hail for rain, And flaming fire in their land.He also struck their vines and their fig trees, And smashed the trees of their territory.He spoke, and locusts came, And creeping locusts, beyond number,And they ate all the vegetation in their land, And ate the fruit of their ground.He also fatally struck all the firstborn in their land, The first fruits of all their vigor.Then He brought the Israelites out with silver and gold, And among His tribes there was not one who stumbled.

For the Lord will judge His people And will have compassion on His servants.

He sent signs and wonders into your midst, Egypt, Upon Pharaoh and all his servants.

Against You, You only, I have sinned And done what is evil in Your sight, So that You are justified when You speak And blameless when You judge.

When He performed His signs in Egypt And His marvels in the field of Zoan,And turned their rivers to blood, And their streams, so that they could not drink.He sent swarms of flies among them that devoured them, And frogs that destroyed them.He also gave their crops to the grasshopper And the product of their labor to the locust.He destroyed their vines with hailstones And their sycamore trees with frost.He also turned their cattle over to the hailstones, And their herds to bolts of lightning.He sent His burning anger upon them, Fury and indignation and trouble, A band of destroying angels.He leveled a path for His anger; He did not spare their souls from death, But turned their lives over to the plague,And struck all the firstborn in Egypt, The first and best of their vigor in the tents of Ham.
