Then the Lord said to Abram,“ Know for certain that your offspring will be sojourners in a land that is not theirs and will be servants there, and they will be afflicted for four hundred years.

耶和华对亚伯兰说：“你要确实地知道，你的后裔必在外地寄居，也必服事那地的人，那地的人苦待他们四百年。

耶和华对亚伯兰说：“你要确切知道：你的后裔将在不属于自己的地上寄居，并服事那地的人；那地的人将苦待他们四百年。

永恆主對亞伯蘭說：『你要確實知道：你的後裔必寄居在一個不是自己之地的所在，必服事那地的人，那地的人必苦害他們四百年。

耶和華對亞伯蘭說：「你要確切知道：你的後裔將在不屬於自己的地上寄居，並服事那地的人；那地的人將苦待他們四百年。

Then the Lord said to him,“ Know for certain that for four hundred years your descendants will be strangers in a country not their own and that they will be enslaved and mistreated there.

Then the Lord said to him,“ You can be sure of what I am about to tell you. For 400 years, your family who comes after you will be strangers in another country. They will become slaves there and will be treated badly.

Then the Lord said to Abram,“ You can be sure that your descendants will be strangers in a foreign land, where they will be oppressed as slaves for 400 years.

Then the LORD said to Abram,“ Know this for certain: Your offspring will be resident aliens for four hundred years in a land that does not belong to them and will be enslaved and oppressed.

Then God said to Abram,“ Know for certain that your descendants will be strangers in a land that is not theirs, where they will be enslaved and oppressed for four hundred years.

Then He said to Abram:“ Know certainly that your descendants will be strangers in a land that is not theirs, and will serve them, and they will afflict them four hundred years.

And he said unto Abram, Know of a surety that thy seed shall be sojourners in a land that is not theirs, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years;

Then the Lord said to Abram,“ Know this for certain: Your offspring will be foreigners in a land that does not belong to them; they will be enslaved and oppressed 400 years.

And he said unto Abram, Know of a surety that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land[ that is] not theirs, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years;

Then the LORD said to Abram,“ Know for certain that your descendants will be strangers in a foreign country. They will be enslaved and oppressed for four hundred years.

He said to Abram,“ Know for sure that your offspring will live as foreigners in a land that is not theirs, and will serve them. They will afflict them four hundred years.

And God spoke to this effect— that his offspring would be sojourners in a land belonging to others, who would enslave them and afflict them four hundred years.‘ But I will judge the nation that they serve,’ said God,‘ and after that they shall come out and worship me in this place.’

This is what I mean: the law, which came 430 years afterward, does not annul a covenant previously ratified by God, so as to make the promise void.

Therefore they set taskmasters over them to afflict them with heavy burdens. They built for Pharaoh store cities, Pithom and Raamses.

The time that the people of Israel lived in Egypt was 430 years.At the end of 430 years, on that very day, all the hosts of the Lord went out from the land of Egypt.

“ But as the time of the promise drew near, which God had granted to Abraham, the people increased and multiplied in Egypt

These are the names of the sons of Israel who came to Egypt with Jacob, each with his household:Reuben, Simeon, Levi, and Judah,

You shall treat the stranger who sojourns with you as the native among you, and you shall love him as yourself, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the Lord your God.

Afterward Moses and Aaron went and said to Pharaoh,“ Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel,‘ Let my people go, that they may hold a feast to me in the wilderness.’”But Pharaoh said,“ Who is the Lord, that I should obey his voice and let Israel go? I do not know the Lord, and moreover, I will not let Israel go.”Then they said,“ The God of the Hebrews has met with us. Please let us go a three days’ journey into the wilderness that we may sacrifice to the Lord our God, lest he fall upon us with pestilence or with the sword.”But the king of Egypt said to them,“ Moses and Aaron, why do you take the people away from their work? Get back to your burdens.”And Pharaoh said,“ Behold, the people of the land are now many, and you make them rest from their burdens!”The same day Pharaoh commanded the taskmasters of the people and their foremen,“ You shall no longer give the people straw to make bricks, as in the past; let them go and gather straw for themselves.But the number of bricks that they made in the past you shall impose on them, you shall by no means reduce it, for they are idle. Therefore they cry,‘ Let us go and offer sacrifice to our God.’Let heavier work be laid on the men that they may labor at it and pay no regard to lying words.”So the taskmasters and the foremen of the people went out and said to the people,“ Thus says Pharaoh,‘ I will not give you straw.Go and get your straw yourselves wherever you can find it, but your work will not be reduced in the least.’”So the people were scattered throughout all the land of Egypt to gather stubble for straw.The taskmasters were urgent, saying,“ Complete your work, your daily task each day, as when there was straw.”And the foremen of the people of Israel, whom Pharaoh’s taskmasters had set over them, were beaten and were asked,“ Why have you not done all your task of making bricks today and yesterday, as in the past?”Then the foremen of the people of Israel came and cried to Pharaoh,“ Why do you treat your servants like this?No straw is given to your servants, yet they say to us,‘ Make bricks!’ And behold, your servants are beaten; but the fault is in your own people.”But he said,“ You are idle, you are idle; that is why you say,‘ Let us go and sacrifice to the Lord.’Go now and work. No straw will be given you, but you must still deliver the same number of bricks.”The foremen of the people of Israel saw that they were in trouble when they said,“ You shall by no means reduce your number of bricks, your daily task each day.”They met Moses and Aaron, who were waiting for them, as they came out from Pharaoh;and they said to them,“ The Lord look on you and judge, because you have made us stink in the sight of Pharaoh and his servants, and have put a sword in their hand to kill us.”Then Moses turned to the Lord and said,“ O Lord, why have you done evil to this people? Why did you ever send me?For since I came to Pharaoh to speak in your name, he has done evil to this people, and you have not delivered your people at all.”

Love the sojourner, therefore, for you were sojourners in the land of Egypt.

“ You shall not wrong a sojourner or oppress him, for you were sojourners in the land of Egypt.

And I will give to you and to your offspring after you the land of your sojournings, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession, and I will be their God.”

Then Israel came to Egypt; Jacob sojourned in the land of Ham.And the Lord made his people very fruitful and made them stronger than their foes.He turned their hearts to hate his people, to deal craftily with his servants.

“ You shall not oppress a sojourner. You know the heart of a sojourner, for you were sojourners in the land of Egypt.

saying,“ To you I will give the land of Canaan as your portion for an inheritance.”When they were few in number, of little account, and sojourners in it,

By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to a place that he was to receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going.By faith he went to live in the land of promise, as in a foreign land, living in tents with Isaac and Jacob, heirs with him of the same promise.For he was looking forward to the city that has foundations, whose designer and builder is God.By faith Sarah herself received power to conceive, even when she was past the age, since she considered him faithful who had promised.Therefore from one man, and him as good as dead, were born descendants as many as the stars of heaven and as many as the innumerable grains of sand by the seashore.These all died in faith, not having received the things promised, but having seen them and greeted them from afar, and having acknowledged that they were strangers and exiles on the earth.
