以利沙說：“我指著我所事奉永活的耶和華起誓，我決不收取任何禮物。”乃縵再三促請他接受，都被他拒絕。

亞達月十四日，在書珊的猶大人又聚集起來，在書珊殺了三百人，卻沒有下手掠奪他們的財物。在王各省其餘的猶大人，也都聚集起來，保護自己的性命，向他們的仇敵報復，殺了恨他們的人共七萬五千；至於財物，他們卻沒有下手掠奪。

神人以利沙的僕人基哈西心裡說：“看哪，我主人不肯從這亞蘭人乃縵手中收取他帶來的禮物；我指著永活的耶和華起誓，我要追上他，向他要些東西。”

你們為人不要貪愛錢財，要以現在所有的為滿足；因為神親自說過：“我決不撇下你，也不離棄你。”

我在你們那裡有缺乏的時候，並沒有連累任何人，因為從馬其頓來的弟兄們，補足了我的缺乏。我在各方面都不讓自己成為你們的重擔，將來也是一樣。我有基督的真理在我裡面，在亞該亞一帶沒有人能阻止我這樣誇口。為甚麼呢？是我不愛你們嗎？神是知道的。我現在所作的，將來還要作，為了要斷絕那些投機分子的機會，不讓他們在所誇的事上，被人認為是跟我們一樣的。

好了，我打算第三次到你們那裡去，這一次也不會成為你們的重擔，因為我所要的不是你們的東西，而是你們自己。兒女不需要為父母積財，父母卻應該為兒女積財。

神人對王說：“你就是把王宮的一半給我，我也不會與你回去，也不在這地方吃飯喝水。
