Then Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine. He was priest of God Most High,

Melchizedek was the king of Jerusalem. He brought out bread and wine. He was the priest of the Most High God.

And Melchizedek, the king of Salem and a priest of God Most High, brought Abram some bread and wine.

The LORD makes this promise on oath and will not revoke it:“ You are an eternal priest after the pattern of Melchizedek.”

where Jesus our forerunner entered on our behalf, since he became a priest forever in the order of Melchizedek.Now this Melchizedek, king of Salem, priest of the most high God, met Abraham as he was returning from defeating the kings and blessed him.To him also Abraham apportioned a tithe of everything. His name first means king of righteousness, then king of Salem, that is, king of peace.Without father, without mother, without genealogy, he has neither beginning of days nor end of life but is like the son of God, and he remains a priest for all time.

as also in another place God says,“ You are a priest forever in the order of Melchizedek.”

and he was designated by God as high priest in the order of Melchizedek.

While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and after giving thanks he broke it, gave it to his disciples, and said,“ Take, eat, this is my body.”And after taking the cup and giving thanks, he gave it to them, saying,“ Drink from it, all of you,for this is my blood, the blood of the covenant, that is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.I tell you, from now on I will not drink of this fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.”

She followed behind Paul and us and kept crying out,“ These men are servants of the Most High God, who are proclaiming to you the way of salvation.”

I will thank the LORD for his justice; I will sing praises to the sovereign LORD!

I cry out for help to the sovereign God, to the God who vindicates me.

He lives in Salem; he dwells in Zion.

He said,“ May you be rewarded by the LORD, my dear! This act of devotion is greater than what you did before. For you have not sought to marry one of the young men, whether rich or poor.

With what should I enter the LORD’s presence? With what should I bow before the sovereign God? Should I enter his presence with burnt offerings, with year-old calves?

For he was still in his ancestor Abraham’s loins when Melchizedek met him.So if perfection had in fact been possible through the Levitical priesthood– for on that basis the people received the law– what further need would there have been for another priest to arise, said to be in the order of Melchizedek and not in Aaron’s order?For when the priesthood changes, a change in the law must come as well.Yet the one these things are spoken about belongs to a different tribe, and no one from that tribe has ever officiated at the altar.For it is clear that our Lord is descended from Judah, yet Moses said nothing about priests in connection with that tribe.And this is even clearer if another priest arises in the likeness of Melchizedek,who has become a priest not by a legal regulation about physical descent but by the power of an indestructible life.For here is the testimony about him:“ You are a priest forever in the order of Melchizedek.”On the one hand a former command is set aside because it is weak and useless,for the law made nothing perfect. On the other hand a better hope is introduced, through which we draw near to God.And since this was not done without a sworn affirmation– for the others have become priests without a sworn affirmation,but Jesus did so with a sworn affirmation by the one who said to him,“ The Lord has sworn and will not change his mind,‘ You are a priest forever’”–accordingly Jesus has become the guarantee of a better covenant.

Yet the Most High does not live in houses made by human hands, as the prophet says,

So then, whenever we have an opportunity, let us do good to all people, and especially to those who belong to the family of faith.

Present to God a thank-offering! Repay your vows to the sovereign One!

So David sent messengers to the people of Jabesh Gilead and told them,“ May you be blessed by the LORD because you have shown this kindness to your lord Saul by burying him.
