亞伯蘭帶著妻子撒萊、侄兒羅得以及在哈蘭積攢的財物和所得的奴僕啟程來到迦南。到了迦南以後，

凡我所愛的，我都會責備、管教。因此，你要熱心起來，也要悔改。

亞伯蘭住在迦南，羅得則住在平原的城邑裡，並漸漸把帳篷遷移到所多瑪附近。所多瑪人極其邪惡，在耶和華眼中罪惡滔天。

我聽見天上又有一個聲音說：「我的子民啊，離開那城，以免沾染她的罪惡，受她所受的災禍。

那些渴望發財的人卻陷入誘惑、網羅和許多愚蠢有害的慾望中，以致落入敗壞和滅亡中。貪財是萬惡之根，有人因為貪財就離棄了信仰，結果飽嚐種種錐心般的痛苦。但你這屬上帝的人要遠避這些事，要追求公義、敬虔、信心、愛心、忍耐和溫柔，

他對會眾說：「你們離這些惡人的帳篷遠一點，不要碰他們的任何東西，免得你們因他們的罪而受牽連，同遭毀滅。」

災禍突然奪走人命時，祂嘲笑無辜者的遭遇。
