I will make your offspring like the dust of the earth, so that if anyone could count the dust, then your offspring could be counted.

And Your servant is in the midst of Your people whom You have chosen, a great people, too numerous to be numbered or counted.

Then He brought him outside and said,“ Look now toward heaven, and count the stars if you are able to number them.” And He said to him,“ So shall your descendants be.”

Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, Your servants, to whom You swore by Your own self, and said to them,‘ I will multiply your descendants as the stars of heaven; and all this land that I have spoken of I give to your descendants, and they shall inherit it forever.’”

Abraham again took a wife, and her name was Keturah.And she bore him Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak, and Shuah.Jokshan begot Sheba and Dedan. And the sons of Dedan were Asshurim, Letushim, and Leummim.And the sons of Midian were Ephah, Epher, Hanoch, Abidah, and Eldaah. All these were the children of Keturah.And Abraham gave all that he had to Isaac.But Abraham gave gifts to the sons of the concubines which Abraham had; and while he was still living he sent them eastward, away from Isaac his son, to the country of the east.This is the sum of the years of Abraham’s life which he lived: one hundred and seventy-five years.Then Abraham breathed his last and died in a good old age, an old man and full of years, and was gathered to his people.And his sons Isaac and Ishmael buried him in the cave of Machpelah, which is before Mamre, in the field of Ephron the son of Zohar the Hittite,the field which Abraham purchased from the sons of Heth. There Abraham was buried, and Sarah his wife.And it came to pass, after the death of Abraham, that God blessed his son Isaac. And Isaac dwelt at Beer Lahai Roi.Now this is the genealogy of Ishmael, Abraham’s son, whom Hagar the Egyptian, Sarah’s maidservant, bore to Abraham.And these were the names of the sons of Ishmael, by their names, according to their generations: The firstborn of Ishmael, Nebajoth; then Kedar, Adbeel, Mibsam,Mishma, Dumah, Massa,Hadar, Tema, Jetur, Naphish, and Kedemah.These were the sons of Ishmael and these were their names, by their towns and their settlements, twelve princes according to their nations.These were the years of the life of Ishmael: one hundred and thirty-seven years; and he breathed his last and died, and was gathered to his people.( They dwelt from Havilah as far as Shur, which is east of Egypt as you go toward Assyria.) He died in the presence of all his brethren.This is the genealogy of Isaac, Abraham’s son. Abraham begot Isaac.Isaac was forty years old when he took Rebekah as wife, the daughter of Bethuel the Syrian of Padan Aram, the sister of Laban the Syrian.Now Isaac pleaded with the Lord for his wife, because she was barren; and the Lord granted his plea, and Rebekah his wife conceived.But the children struggled together within her; and she said,“ If all is well, why am I like this?” So she went to inquire of the Lord.And the Lord said to her:“ Two nations are in your womb, Two peoples shall be separated from your body; One people shall be stronger than the other, And the older shall serve the younger.”So when her days were fulfilled for her to give birth, indeed there were twins in her womb.And the first came out red. He was like a hairy garment all over; so they called his name Esau.Afterward his brother came out, and his hand took hold of Esau’s heel; so his name was called Jacob. Isaac was sixty years old when she bore them.So the boys grew. And Esau was a skillful hunter, a man of the field; but Jacob was a mild man, dwelling in tents.And Isaac loved Esau because he ate of his game, but Rebekah loved Jacob.Now Jacob cooked a stew; and Esau came in from the field, and he was weary.And Esau said to Jacob,“ Please feed me with that same red stew, for I am weary.” Therefore his name was called Edom.But Jacob said,“ Sell me your birthright as of this day.”And Esau said,“ Look, I am about to die; so what is this birthright to me?”Then Jacob said,“ Swear to me as of this day.” So he swore to him, and sold his birthright to Jacob.And Jacob gave Esau bread and stew of lentils; then he ate and drank, arose, and went his way. since Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him?

Judah and Israel were as numerous as the sand by the sea in multitude, eating and drinking and rejoicing.

After these things I looked, and behold, a great multitude which no one could number, of all nations, tribes, peoples, and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, with palm branches in their hands,

The Lord your God has multiplied you, and here you are today, as the stars of heaven in multitude.

So He said,“ I am God, the God of your father; do not fear to go down to Egypt, for I will make of you a great nation there.

And as for Ishmael, I have heard you. Behold, I have blessed him, and will make him fruitful, and will multiply him exceedingly. He shall beget twelve princes, and I will make him a great nation.

“ May God Almighty bless you, And make you fruitful and multiply you, That you may be an assembly of peoples;

These are their numbers, according to their fathers’ houses. Of Judah, the captains of thousands: Adnah the captain, and with him three hundred thousand mighty men of valor;and next to him was Jehohanan the captain, and with him two hundred and eighty thousand;and next to him was Amasiah the son of Zichri, who willingly offered himself to the Lord, and with him two hundred thousand mighty men of valor.Of Benjamin: Eliada a mighty man of valor, and with him two hundred thousand men armed with bow and shield;and next to him was Jehozabad, and with him one hundred and eighty thousand prepared for war.

Therefore from one man, and him as good as dead, were born as many as the stars of the sky in multitude— innumerable as the sand which is by the seashore.

I will make you a great nation; I will bless you And make your name great; And you shall be a blessing.I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”

For they would come up with their livestock and their tents, coming in as numerous as locusts; both they and their camels were without number; and they would enter the land to destroy it.

Yet I will also make a nation of the son of the bondwoman, because he is your seed.”

But David did not take the number of those twenty years old and under, because the Lord had said He would multiply Israel like the stars of the heavens.

And I will make your descendants multiply as the stars of heaven; I will give to your descendants all these lands; and in your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed;

Also God said to him:“ I am God Almighty. Be fruitful and multiply; a nation and a company of nations shall proceed from you, and kings shall come from your body.

Now this is the genealogy of Esau, who is Edom.Esau took his wives from the daughters of Canaan: Adah the daughter of Elon the Hittite; Aholibamah the daughter of Anah, the daughter of Zibeon the Hivite;and Basemath, Ishmael’s daughter, sister of Nebajoth.Now Adah bore Eliphaz to Esau, and Basemath bore Reuel.And Aholibamah bore Jeush, Jaalam, and Korah. Lotan’s sister was Timna.These were the sons of Shobal: Alvan, Manahath, Ebal, Shepho, and Onam.These were the sons of Zibeon: both Ajah and Anah. And the name of his city was Avith.When Hadad died, Samlah of Masrekah reigned in his place.And when Samlah died, Saul of Rehoboth-by-the-River reigned in his place.When Saul died, Baal-Hanan the son of Achbor reigned in his place.And when Baal-Hanan the son of Achbor died, Hadar reigned in his place; and the name of his city was Pau. His wife’s name was Mehetabel, the daughter of Matred, the daughter of Mezahab.And these were the names of the chiefs of Esau, according to their families and their places, by their names: Chief Timnah, Chief Alvah, Chief Jetheth,Chief Aholibamah, Chief Elah, Chief Pinon,Chief Kenaz, Chief Teman, Chief Mibzar,Chief Magdiel, and Chief Iram. These were the chiefs of Edom, according to their dwelling places in the land of their possession. Esau was the father of the Edomites.

Then Joab gave the sum of the number of the people to David. All Israel had one million one hundred thousand men who drew the sword, and Judah had four hundred and seventy thousand men who drew the sword.

As the host of heaven cannot be numbered, nor the sand of the sea measured, so will I multiply the descendants of David My servant and the Levites who minister to Me.’”

And I will bless her and also give you a son by her; then I will bless her, and she shall be a mother of nations; kings of peoples shall be from her.”

Oh, that you had heeded My commandments! Then your peace would have been like a river, And your righteousness like the waves of the sea.Your descendants also would have been like the sand, And the offspring of your body like the grains of sand; His name would not have been cut off Nor destroyed from before Me.”

So it was, whenever Israel had sown, Midianites would come up; also Amalekites and the people of the East would come up against them.

Therefore it is of faith that it might be according to grace, so that the promise might be sure to all the seed, not only to those who are of the law, but also to those who are of the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all( as it is written,“ I have made you a father of many nations”) in the presence of Him whom he believed— God, who gives life to the dead and calls those things which do not exist as though they did;who, contrary to hope, in hope believed, so that he became the father of many nations, according to what was spoken,“ So shall your descendants be.”

But the children of Israel were fruitful and increased abundantly, multiplied and grew exceedingly mighty; and the land was filled with them.

I will make you exceedingly fruitful; and I will make nations of you, and kings shall come from you.
