亚伯拉罕说：“我以为这地方的人总不惧怕神，必为我妻子的缘故杀我。

那地方的人问到他的妻子，他便说：“那是我的妹子。”原来他怕说：“是我的妻子”；他心里想：“恐怕这地方的人为利百加的缘故杀我”，因为她容貌俊美。

惧怕人的，陷入网罗；惟有倚靠耶和华的，必得安稳。

那杀身体、不能杀灵魂的，不要怕他们；惟有能把身体和灵魂都灭在地狱里的，正要怕他。

大卫心里说：“必有一日我死在扫罗手里，不如逃奔非利士地去。扫罗见我不在以色列的境内，就必绝望，不再寻索我；这样我可以脱离他的手。”

我们若说自己无罪，便是自欺，真理不在我们心里了。我们若认自己的罪，神是信实的，是公义的，必要赦免我们的罪，洗净我们一切的不义。我们若说自己没有犯过罪，便是以神为说谎的，他的道也不在我们心里了。
