On the same day the Lord made a covenant with Abram, saying:“ To your descendants I have given this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the River Euphrates—the Kenites, the Kenezzites, the Kadmonites,the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Rephaim,the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Girgashites, and the Jebusites.”

Canaan begot Sidon, his firstborn, and Heth;

Be ashamed, O Sidon; For the sea has spoken, The strength of the sea, saying,“ I do not labor, nor bring forth children; Neither do I rear young men, Nor bring up virgins.”

“ Zebulun shall dwell by the haven of the sea; He shall become a haven for ships, And his border shall adjoin Sidon.

And the Lord delivered them into the hand of Israel, who defeated them and chased them to Greater Sidon, to the Brook Misrephoth, and to the Valley of Mizpah eastward; they attacked them until they left none of them remaining.

And he took one of the stones of that place and put it at his head, and he lay down in that place to sleep.Then he dreamed, and behold, a ladder was set up on the earth, and its top reached to heaven; and there the angels of God were ascending and descending on it.And behold, the Lord stood above it and said:“ I am the Lord God of Abraham your father and the God of Isaac; the land on which you lie I will give to you and your descendants.Also your descendants shall be as the dust of the earth; you shall spread abroad to the west and the east, to the north and the south; and in you and in your seed all the families of the earth shall be blessed.Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land; for I will not leave you until I have done what I have spoken to you.”Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said,“ Surely the Lord is in this place, and I did not know it.”And he was afraid and said,“ How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven!”Then Jacob rose early in the morning, and took the stone that he had put at his head, set it up as a pillar, and poured oil on top of it.And he called the name of that place Bethel; but the name of that city had been Luz previously.Then Jacob made a vow, saying,“ If God will be with me, and keep me in this way that I am going, and give me bread to eat and clothing to put on,

So David sent and inquired about the woman. And someone said,“ Is this not Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite?”

Observe what I command you this day. Behold, I am driving out from before you the Amorite and the Canaanite and the Hittite and the Perizzite and the Hivite and the Jebusite.

So I have come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up from that land to a good and large land, to a land flowing with milk and honey, to the place of the Canaanites and the Hittites and the Amorites and the Perizzites and the Hivites and the Jebusites.

This shall be your northern border.‘ You shall mark out your eastern border from Hazar Enan to Shepham;the border shall go down from Shepham to Riblah on the east side of Ain; the border shall go down and reach to the eastern side of the Sea of Chinnereth;the border shall go down along the Jordan, and it shall end at the Salt Sea. This shall be your land with its surrounding boundaries.’”Then Moses commanded the children of Israel, saying:“ This is the land which you shall inherit by lot, which the Lord has commanded to give to the nine tribes and to the half-tribe.For the tribe of the children of Reuben according to the house of their fathers, and the tribe of the children of Gad according to the house of their fathers, have received their inheritance; and the half-tribe of Manasseh has received its inheritance.The two tribes and the half-tribe have received their inheritance on this side of the Jordan, across from Jericho eastward, toward the sunrise.”

Then Abraham stood up from before his dead, and spoke to the sons of Heth, saying,
