蓋形軀之慾禦乎神、神禦形軀、二者相敵、俾爾不行其所欲行、

欲克神、神克欲、二者相敵、乃心所好者、反不為之、

蓋肉體所欲、逆聖神、聖神所欲、逆肉體、二者相敵、致爾不能為所欲為、

蓋情慾長則靈心消、靈心長則情慾消；兩者相敵、致爾心有餘而力不足。

For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want.

The desires controlled by sin do not want what the Spirit delights in. And the Spirit does not want what the desires controlled by sin delight in. The two are at war with each other. That’s why you are not supposed to do whatever you want.

For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do.

The sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires. These two forces are constantly fighting each other, so you are not free to carry out your good intentions.

For the flesh desires what is against the Spirit, and the Spirit desires what is against the flesh; these are opposed to each other, so that you don’t do what you want.

For the desire of the flesh is against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, in order to keep you from doing whatever you want.

For if you live after the flesh, you must die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.

My soul is consumed with longing for your ordinances at all times.

For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.For the mind of the flesh is death, but the mind of the Spirit is life and peace;because the mind of the flesh is hostile toward God; for it is not subject to God’s law, neither indeed can it be.Those who are in the flesh can’t please God.

Or do you think that the Scripture says in vain,“ The Spirit who lives in us yearns jealously”?But he gives more grace. Therefore it says,“ God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”

Surely there is not a righteous man on earth who does good and doesn’t sin.

Watch and pray, that you don’t enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”

I run in the path of your commandments, for you have set my heart free.

Who can discern his errors? Forgive me from hidden errors.Keep back your servant also from presumptuous sins. Let them not have dominion over me. Then I will be upright. I will be blameless and innocent of great transgression.

Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a right spirit within me.Don’t throw me from your presence, and don’t take your Holy Spirit from me.Restore to me the joy of your salvation. Uphold me with a willing spirit.

For we all stumble in many things. Anyone who doesn’t stumble in word is a perfect person, able to bridle the whole body also.

and said to them,“ Why do you sleep? Rise and pray that you may not enter into temptation.”

But he turned, and said to Peter,“ Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me, for you are not setting your mind on the things of God, but on the things of men.”

What shall we say then? Is the law sin? May it never be! However, I wouldn’t have known sin, except through the law. For I wouldn’t have known coveting, unless the law had said,“ You shall not covet.”But sin, finding occasion through the commandment, produced in me all kinds of coveting. For apart from the law, sin is dead.

Not that I have already obtained, or am already made perfect; but I press on, that I may take hold of that for which also I was taken hold of by Christ Jesus.Brothers, I don’t regard myself as yet having taken hold, but one thing I do: forgetting the things which are behind, and stretching forward to the things which are before,I press on toward the goal for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.Let us therefore, as many as are perfect, think this way. If in anything you think otherwise, God will also reveal that to you.Nevertheless, to the extent that we have already attained, let’s walk by the same rule. Let’s be of the same mind.

If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.If we say that we haven’t sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

Direct me in the path of your commandments, for I delight in them.

The commandment which was for life, this I found to be for death;for sin, finding occasion through the commandment, deceived me, and through it killed me.Therefore the law indeed is holy, and the commandment holy, and righteous, and good.Did then that which is good become death to me? May it never be! But sin, that it might be shown to be sin, was producing death in me through that which is good; that through the commandment sin might become exceedingly sinful.For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am fleshly, sold under sin.For I don’t know what I am doing. For I don’t practice what I desire to do; but what I hate, that I do.But if what I don’t desire, that I do, I consent to the law that it is good.So now it is no more I that do it, but sin which dwells in me.For I know that in me, that is, in my flesh, dwells no good thing. For desire is present with me, but I don’t find it doing that which is good.For the good which I desire, I don’t do; but the evil which I don’t desire, that I practice.But if what I don’t desire, that I do, it is no more I that do it, but sin which dwells in me.I find then the law that, to me, while I desire to do good, evil is present.For I delight in God’s law after the inward man,but I see a different law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity under the law of sin which is in my members.What a wretched man I am! Who will deliver me out of the body of this death?I thank God through Jesus Christ, our Lord! So then with the mind, I myself serve God’s law, but with the flesh, sin’s law.

He said to him,“ Lord, I am ready to go with you both to prison and to death!”

Establish my footsteps in your word. Don’t let any iniquity have dominion over me.

Behold, I long for your precepts! Revive me in your righteousness.

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be filled.

They seized him, and led him away, and brought him into the high priest’s house. But Peter followed from a distance.When they had kindled a fire in the middle of the courtyard, and had sat down together, Peter sat among them.A certain servant girl saw him as he sat in the light, and looking intently at him, said,“ This man also was with him.”He denied Jesus, saying,“ Woman, I don’t know him.”After a little while someone else saw him, and said,“ You also are one of them!” But Peter answered,“ Man, I am not!”After about one hour passed, another confidently affirmed, saying,“ Truly this man also was with him, for he is a Galilean!”But Peter said,“ Man, I don’t know what you are talking about!” Immediately, while he was still speaking, a rooster crowed.The Lord turned and looked at Peter. Then Peter remembered the Lord’s word, how he said to him,“ Before the rooster crows you will deny me three times.”

You have commanded your precepts, that we should fully obey them.Oh that my ways were steadfast to obey your statutes!Then I wouldn’t be disappointed, when I consider all of your commandments.

Consider how I love your precepts. Revive me, Yahweh, according to your loving kindness.

Is the law then against the promises of God? Certainly not! For if there had been a law given which could make alive, most certainly righteousness would have been of the law.

Sins overwhelmed me, but you atoned for our transgressions.

I have gone astray like a lost sheep. Seek your servant, for I don’t forget your commandments.

If you, Yah, kept a record of sins, Lord, who could stand?

Indeed your statutes are my delight, and my counselors.My soul is laid low in the dust. Revive me according to your word!
