蓋肉體所欲、逆聖神、聖神所欲、逆肉體、二者相敵、致爾不能為所欲為、

蓋情慾長則靈心消、靈心長則情慾消；兩者相敵、致爾心有餘而力不足。

For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want.

The desires controlled by sin do not want what the Spirit delights in. And the Spirit does not want what the desires controlled by sin delight in. The two are at war with each other. That’s why you are not supposed to do whatever you want.

For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do.

The sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires. These two forces are constantly fighting each other, so you are not free to carry out your good intentions.

For the flesh desires what is against the Spirit, and the Spirit desires what is against the flesh; these are opposed to each other, so that you don’t do what you want.

For the desire of the flesh is against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, in order to keep you from doing whatever you want.

For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish.

For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are contrary the one to the other; that ye may not do the things that ye would.

從欲者死、惟藉聖神以滅吾身情欲、則生、

爾之典章、我盡心以眷愛之、靡日不然兮、

蓋從欲者、體欲之情、從神者、體神之情、體欲之情者死、體神之情者生且安、體欲之情者、不服上帝法、故逆上帝、蓋服法而不能焉、是不能悅於上帝者、從欲也、

經豈空言無補哉、在我之神、詎懷媢嫉哉、彼賜我莫大之恩、故曰、驕泰者、上帝擯斥、卑遜者、上帝賜恩、

普天之下、純善無纖惡者、未之有也。

儆醒也、祈禱也、免入誘惑也、心願而身疲耳、

俾我心廣、步趨爾誡命兮。○

人有過失、孰能自知兮、苟愆尤之誤犯、願赦宥之予加兮、驕肆者流、毋使其誘余、而余效其尤兮、予則為義、不蹈重愆兮、

上帝兮、使我心潔神恬、煥然一新兮、毋我遐棄、爾之聖神、恆牖予衷兮、爾以手援予、使予忻喜兮、爾扶翼予、使予慨以慷兮、

吾眾數蹈於愆、言語無愆者、是為德備之人、能自範其身、

謂之曰、何寢也、且起祈禱、免入誘惑、○

耶穌顧彼得曰、撒但、退、爾阻我、以爾不體上帝之情、乃人之情耳、

然則何以言之、律法豈惡之因乎、曰、不然、非法無以見惡、蓋律法不禁欲、吾末由識欲、惡以誡而乘機、眾欲動於中、未有法、則惡不生、

然我未嘗得、我事猶未成、惟得生是求、蓋為此意、基督耶穌獲我、兄弟乎、我不以為既得、惟不顧其後、向前騰踔趨、趨及標準、欲得上帝緣基督耶穌上召之賞也、練達者、宜懷此意、否則上帝將以此啟迪爾、然我儕所至之地、當遵此法、而與同志、

不與我偕者、則攻我、不與我斂者、則散也、

上帝矜恤無涯、憐憫乎我、塗抹我愆尤、洗滌我罪惡、消除我過失兮、予自言己罪、恆念己惡、我蹈愆尤、獲罪於爾、即責予、爾亦稱義、即鞫予、爾亦為善兮。我母懷妊、生我於世、當此之時、我有罪戾、

我言無罪、則自欺而失真理、若我任罪、上帝公義、言出惟行、將赦我罪、滌我愆尤、自謂無罪、是以上帝言為不然、去道不亦遠乎、

爾之誡命、我悅從之、爾以此導我兮、

我曰、余與斯民、滿口穢濁、得覲大君、睹萬有之主耶和華、我命其尚可保乎、禍必不遠矣、

耶穌曰、西門巴約拿、福矣、以有血氣者不示爾、乃吾天父示之也、

誡本生我、反以死我、蓋惡以誡乘機誘我、因而死我、夫律法聖、誡亦聖、義且善也、曰、誡既善、乃為死我何耶、曰、不然、我之惡、以誡之善致死、是我之惡、因誡愈形其惡者也、我儕知法本乎聖神、我乃狥欲、自鬻於惡、我所為者、我不取也、我所好者不行之、我所惡者斯行之、乃我行吾所不樂行、則證法為善、其行之也、非我行之、乃我中之惡行之、亦知我情欲中無懿德、因好之者雖在前、而行其善者不得也、故不行所好之善、而行所不好之惡、非我行所不好、行之者、乃我中之惡、我覺其情、即樂於為善時、每有惡在前、我中心悅上帝法、惟四體不覺有一法、與吾心之法戰、執我從四體之惡法、我誠苦矣、誰能拯我出致死之體乎、惟賴吾主耶穌基督為然、故謝上帝、由是觀之、服上帝法者內心、服惡法者外心也、

以爾之道、安我步履、毋使惡者勝予兮、

我慕爾道、使我活潑、彰爾仁義兮。○

饑渴慕義者福矣、以其將得飽也、

眾執耶穌、曳於祭司長家、彼得遠從、院中有人、燃火同坐、彼得與焉、有婢見彼得坐向火、注目視之曰、此人亦偕耶穌、彼得不承、謂婢曰、我不識之、有頃、又一人見之曰、爾亦其黨、彼得曰、非也、片時、復一人力言曰、此人實偕之、蓋加利利人也、彼得曰、爾所言、我不識也、言時、雞嗚矣、主顧彼得、彼得憶主言、鷄鳴之先、將三言不識我、

主命斯人、遵守其命、甚黽勉兮。願我立品不淆、遵爾禮儀兮、我惟爾命是從、不致貽羞兮、

耶和華兮、我悅爾道、爾其垂念、俾余活潑、以彰爾仁慈兮、

曰、律法與上帝之許相反乎、非也、若所賜之法、能使人生、則恃法可稱義矣、

予負罪孔多、尚其蓋之兮。

予迷於歧途、譬彼亡羊、請爾追僕、蓋爾之誡命、僕不敢忘兮。

耶和華兮、若爾鑒察惡行、人難自立兮、

爾之法、吾所師而悅懌兮。○我幾鄰於死地、爾使我生、踐爾前言兮、
