For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.

蓋肉體所欲、逆聖神、聖神所欲、逆肉體、二者相敵、致爾不能為所欲為、

蓋情慾長則靈心消、靈心長則情慾消；兩者相敵、致爾心有餘而力不足。

For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want.

The desires controlled by sin do not want what the Spirit delights in. And the Spirit does not want what the desires controlled by sin delight in. The two are at war with each other. That’s why you are not supposed to do whatever you want.

For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do.

The sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires. These two forces are constantly fighting each other, so you are not free to carry out your good intentions.

For the flesh desires what is against the Spirit, and the Spirit desires what is against the flesh; these are opposed to each other, so that you don’t do what you want.

For the desire of the flesh is against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, in order to keep you from doing whatever you want.

For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.

My soul breaketh for the longing[ that it hath] unto thy judgments at all times.

For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.For to be carnally minded[ is] death; but to be spiritually minded[ is] life and peace.Because the carnal mind[ is] enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.

Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy?But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.

For[ there is] not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not.

Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed[ is] willing, but the flesh[ is] weak.

I will run the way of thy commandments, when thou shalt enlarge my heart.

Who can understand[ his] errors? cleanse thou me from secret[ faults].Keep back thy servant also from presumptuous[ sins]; let them not have dominion over me: then shall I be upright, and I shall be innocent from the great transgression.

Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me.Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me[ with thy] free spirit.

For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same[ is] a perfect man,[ and] able also to bridle the whole body.

And said unto them, Why sleep ye? rise and pray, lest ye enter into temptation.

But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men.

What shall we say then?[ Is] the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet.But sin, taking occasion by the commandment, wrought in me all manner of concupiscence. For without the law sin[ was] dead.

Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus.Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but[ this] one thing[ I do], forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if in any thing ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you.Nevertheless, whereto we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us mind the same thing.

He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad.

Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions.Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin[ is] ever before me.Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done[ this] evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest,[ and] be clear when thou judgest.Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.

If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us[ our] sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

Make me to go in the path of thy commandments; for therein do I delight.

Then said I, Woe[ is] me! for I am undone; because I[ am] a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts.

And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed[ it] unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.

And the commandment, which[ was ordained] to life, I found[ to be] unto death.For sin, taking occasion by the commandment, deceived me, and by it slew[ me].Wherefore the law[ is] holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good.Was then that which is good made death unto me? God forbid. But sin, that it might appear sin, working death in me by that which is good; that sin by the commandment might become exceeding sinful.For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin.For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I.If then I do that which I would not, I consent unto the law that[ it is] good.Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.For I know that in me( that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but[ how] to perform that which is good I find not.For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do.Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me.For I delight in the law of God after the inward man:But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.

And he said unto him, Lord, I am ready to go with thee, both into prison, and to death.

Order my steps in thy word: and let not any iniquity have dominion over me.

Behold, I have longed after thy precepts: quicken me in thy righteousness.

Blessed[ are] they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.

Then took they him, and led[ him], and brought him into the high priest’s house. And Peter followed afar off.And when they had kindled a fire in the midst of the hall, and were set down together, Peter sat down among them.But a certain maid beheld him as he sat by the fire, and earnestly looked upon him, and said, This man was also with him.And he denied him, saying, Woman, I know him not.And after a little while another saw him, and said, Thou art also of them. And Peter said, Man, I am not.And about the space of one hour after another confidently affirmed, saying, Of a truth this[ fellow] also was with him: for he is a Galilaean.And Peter said, Man, I know not what thou sayest. And immediately, while he yet spake, the cock crew.And the Lord turned, and looked upon Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice.

Thou hast commanded[ us] to keep thy precepts diligently.O that my ways were directed to keep thy statutes!Then shall I not be ashamed, when I have respect unto all thy commandments.

Consider how I love thy precepts: quicken me, O LORD, according to thy lovingkindness.

[ Is] the law then against the promises of God? God forbid: for if there had been a law given which could have given life, verily righteousness should have been by the law.

Iniquities prevail against me:[ as for] our transgressions, thou shalt purge them away.

I have gone astray like a lost sheep; seek thy servant; for I do not forget thy commandments.

If thou, LORD, shouldest mark iniquities, O Lord, who shall stand?

Thy testimonies also[ are] my delight[ and] my counsellors.DALETH. My soul cleaveth unto the dust: quicken thou me according to thy word.
