蓋肉體所欲、逆聖神、聖神所欲、逆肉體、二者相敵、致爾不能為所欲為、

蓋情慾長則靈心消、靈心長則情慾消；兩者相敵、致爾心有餘而力不足。

For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want.

The desires controlled by sin do not want what the Spirit delights in. And the Spirit does not want what the desires controlled by sin delight in. The two are at war with each other. That’s why you are not supposed to do whatever you want.

For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do.

The sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires. These two forces are constantly fighting each other, so you are not free to carry out your good intentions.

For the desire of the flesh is against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, in order to keep you from doing whatever you want.

For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish.

For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are contrary the one to the other; that ye may not do the things that ye would.

I am continually overcome with longing for your judgments.

For those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit have their minds set on the things of the Spirit.Now the mindset of the flesh is death, but the mindset of the Spirit is life and peace.The mindset of the flesh is hostile to God because it does not submit to God’s law. Indeed, it is unable to do so.Those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

Or do you think it’s without reason that the Scripture says: The spirit he made to dwell in us envies intensely?But he gives greater grace. Therefore he says: God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble.

There is certainly no one righteous on the earth who does good and never sins.

Stay awake and pray, so that you won’t enter into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”

I pursue the way of your commands, for you broaden my understanding.

Who perceives his unintentional sins? Cleanse me from my hidden faults.Moreover, keep your servant from willful sins; do not let them rule me. Then I will be blameless and cleansed from blatant rebellion.

God, create a clean heart for me and renew a steadfast spirit within me.Do not banish me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me.Restore the joy of your salvation to me, and sustain me by giving me a willing spirit.

For we all stumble in many ways. If anyone does not stumble in what he says, he is mature, able also to control the whole body.

“ Why are you sleeping?” he asked them.“ Get up and pray, so that you won’t fall into temptation.”

Not that I have already reached the goal or am already perfect, but I make every effort to take hold of it because I also have been taken hold of by Christ Jesus.Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and reaching forward to what is ahead,I pursue as my goal the prize promised by God’s heavenly call in Christ Jesus.Therefore, let all of us who are mature think this way. And if you think differently about anything, God will reveal this also to you.In any case, we should live up to whatever truth we have attained.

Anyone who is not with me is against me, and anyone who does not gather with me scatters.

“ Lord,” he told him,“ I’m ready to go with you both to prison and to death.”

Make my steps steady through your promise; don’t let any sin dominate me.

How I long for your precepts! Give me life through your righteousness.

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.

So Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said to him,“ Before the rooster crows today, you will deny me three times.”

You have commanded that your precepts be diligently kept.If only my ways were committed to keeping your statutes!Then I would not be ashamed when I think about all your commands.

Consider how I love your precepts; LORD, give me life according to your faithful love.

Is the law therefore contrary to God’s promises? Absolutely not! For if the law had been granted with the ability to give life, then righteousness would certainly be on the basis of the law.

Iniquities overwhelm me; only you can atone for our rebellions.

I wander like a lost sheep; seek your servant, for I do not forget your commands.

LORD, if you kept an account of iniquities, Lord, who could stand?

your decrees are my delight and my counselors.My life is down in the dust; give me life through your word.
