蓋肉體所欲、逆聖神、聖神所欲、逆肉體、二者相敵、致爾不能為所欲為、

蓋情慾長則靈心消、靈心長則情慾消；兩者相敵、致爾心有餘而力不足。

For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want.

The desires controlled by sin do not want what the Spirit delights in. And the Spirit does not want what the desires controlled by sin delight in. The two are at war with each other. That’s why you are not supposed to do whatever you want.

For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do.

The sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires. These two forces are constantly fighting each other, so you are not free to carry out your good intentions.

For the flesh desires what is against the Spirit, and the Spirit desires what is against the flesh; these are opposed to each other, so that you don’t do what you want.

For the desire of the flesh is against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, in order to keep you from doing whatever you want.

My soul breaketh for the longing That it hath unto thine ordinances at all times.

For they that are after the flesh mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.For the mind of the flesh is death; but the mind of the Spirit is life and peace:because the mind of the flesh is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can it be:and they that are in the flesh cannot please God.

Or think ye that the scripture speaketh in vain? Doth the spirit which he made to dwell in us long unto envying?But he giveth more grace. Wherefore the scripture saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace to the humble.

Surely there is not a righteous man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not.

Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.

I will run the way of thy commandments, When thou shalt enlarge my heart.

Who can discern his errors? Clear thou me from hidden faults.Keep back thy servant also from presumptuous sins; Let them not have dominion over me: Then shall I be upright, And I shall be clear from great transgression.

Create in me a clean heart, O God; And renew a right spirit within me.Cast me not away from thy presence; And take not thy holy Spirit from me.Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; And uphold me with a willing spirit.

For in many things we all stumble. If any stumbleth not in word, the same is a perfect man, able to bridle the whole body also.

and said unto them, Why sleep ye? rise and pray, that ye enter not into temptation.

But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art a stumbling- block unto me: for thou mindest not the things of God, but the things of men.

What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Howbeit, I had not known sin, except through the law: for I had not known coveting, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet:but sin, finding occasion, wrought in me through the commandment all manner of coveting: for apart from the law sin is dead.

He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth.

If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

Make me to go in the path of thy commandments; For therein do I delight.

And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Bar- Jonah: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father who is in heaven.

and the commandment, which was unto life, this I found to be unto death:for sin, finding occasion, through the commandment beguiled me, and through it slew me.So that the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and righteous, and good.Did then that which is good become death unto me? God forbid. And he said unto him, Lord, with thee I am ready to go both to prison and to death.

Establish my footsteps in thy word; And let not any iniquity have dominion over me.

Behold, I have longed after thy precepts: Quicken me in thy righteousness.

Blessed are they that hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.

And they seized him, and led him away, and brought him into the high priest’s house. But Peter followed afar off.And when they had kindled a fire in the midst of the court, and had sat down together, Peter sat in the midst of them.And a certain maid seeing him as he sat in the light of the fire, and looking stedfastly upon him, said, This man also was with him.But he denied, saying, Woman, I know him not.And after a little while another saw him, and said, Thou also art one of them. But Peter said, Man, I am not.And after the space of about one hour another confidently affirmed, saying, Of a truth this man also was with him; for he is a Galilæan.But Peter said, Man, I know not what thou sayest. And immediately, while he yet spake, the cock crew.And the Lord turned, and looked upon Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how that he said unto him, Before the cock crow this day thou shalt deny me thrice.

Thou hast commanded us thy precepts, That we should observe them diligently.Oh that my ways were established To observe thy statutes!Then shall I not be put to shame, When I have respect unto all thy commandments.

Consider how I love thy precepts: Quicken me, O Jehovah, according to thy lovingkindness.

Is the law then against the promises of God? God forbid: for if there had been a law given which could make alive, verily righteousness would have been of the law.

Iniquities prevail against me: As for our transgressions, thou wilt forgive them.

I have gone astray like a lost sheep; Seek thy servant; For I do not forget thy commandments.

If thou, Jehovah, shouldest mark iniquities, O Lord, who could stand?

Thy testimonies also are my delight And my counsellors.My soul cleaveth unto the dust: Quicken thou me according to thy word.
