然而，那使女所生的是按着血气生的；那自主之妇人所生的，是凭着应许生的。

婢出者、循人道、婦出者、因應許、

其由婢生者、循血氣而生、其由自主之婦生者、因應許而生、

然婢女之子、乃因肉情而生；而主婦之子、則憑恩諾而生。

His son by the slave woman was born according to the flesh, but his son by the free woman was born as the result of a divine promise.

Abraham’s son by the slave woman was born in the usual way. But his son by the free woman was born because of God’s promise.

But the son of the slave was born according to the flesh, while the son of the free woman was born through promise.

The son of the slave wife was born in a human attempt to bring about the fulfillment of God’s promise. But the son of the freeborn wife was born as God’s own fulfillment of his promise.

But the one by the slave was born as a result of the flesh, while the one by the free woman was born through promise.

But the son by the slave woman was born according to the flesh, and the son by the free woman through the promise.

But he who was of the bondwoman was born according to the flesh, and he of the freewoman through promise,

Howbeit the son by the handmaid is born after the flesh; but the son by the freewoman is born through promise.

因着信，连撒拉自己，虽然过了生育的岁数，还能怀孕，因她以为那应许她的是可信的。

也不因为是亚伯拉罕的后裔就都作他的儿女；惟独“从以撒生的才要称为你的后裔。”这就是说，肉身所生的儿女不是神的儿女，惟独那应许的儿女才算是后裔。

耶和华按着先前的话眷顾撒拉，便照他所说的给撒拉成就。当亚伯拉罕年老的时候，撒拉怀了孕；到神所说的日期，就给亚伯拉罕生了一个儿子。

三人中有一位说：“到明年这时候，我必要回到你这里；你的妻子撒拉必生一个儿子。”撒拉在那人后边的帐棚门口也听见了这话。亚伯拉罕和撒拉年纪老迈，撒拉的月经已断绝了。撒拉心里暗笑，说：“我既已衰败，我主也老迈，岂能有这喜事呢？”耶和华对亚伯拉罕说：“撒拉为什么暗笑，说：‘我既已年老，果真能生养吗？’耶和华岂有难成的事吗？到了日期，明年这时候，我必回到你这里，撒拉必生一个儿子。”

弟兄们，我们是凭着应许作儿女，如同以撒一样。当时，那按着血气生的，逼迫了那按着圣灵生的，现在也是这样。

他在无可指望的时候，因信仍有指望，就得以作多国的父，正如先前所说：“你的后裔将要如此。”他将近百岁的时候，虽然想到自己的身体如同已死，撒拉的生育已经断绝，他的信心还是不软弱；并且仰望神的应许，总没有因不信，心里起疑惑，反倒因信，心里得坚固，将荣耀归给神，且满心相信神所应许的必能做成。

神又对亚伯拉罕说：“你的妻子撒莱不可再叫撒莱，她的名要叫撒拉。我必赐福给她，也要使你从她得一个儿子。我要赐福给她，她也要作多国之母；必有百姓的君王从她而出。”亚伯拉罕就俯伏在地喜笑，心里说：“一百岁的人还能得孩子吗？撒拉已经九十岁了，还能生养吗？”亚伯拉罕对神说：“但愿以实玛利活在你面前。”神说：“不然，你妻子撒拉要给你生一个儿子，你要给他起名叫以撒。我要与他坚定所立的约，作他后裔永远的约。

他到底怎么说呢？他说：“这道离你不远，正在你口里，在你心里。”就是我们所传信主的道。
