那出于女仆的是由肉体生的，那出于自由女人的是藉着应许生的。

然而，那使女所生的是按着血气生的；那自主之妇人所生的，是凭着应许生的。

His son by the slave woman was born according to the flesh, but his son by the free woman was born as the result of a divine promise.

Abraham’s son by the slave woman was born in the usual way. But his son by the free woman was born because of God’s promise.

But the son of the slave was born according to the flesh, while the son of the free woman was born through promise.

The son of the slave wife was born in a human attempt to bring about the fulfillment of God’s promise. But the son of the freeborn wife was born as God’s own fulfillment of his promise.

But the one by the slave was born as a result of the flesh, while the one by the free woman was born through promise.

But the son by the slave woman was born according to the flesh, and the son by the free woman through the promise.

But he who was of the bondwoman was born according to the flesh, and he of the freewoman through promise,

Howbeit the son by the handmaid is born after the flesh; but the son by the freewoman is born through promise.

But the one by the slave was born according to the impulse of the flesh, while the one by the free woman was born as the result of a promise.

同样因着信，不能生育的撒拉，自己虽然过了年龄，还是领受了怀孕生子的能力，原来她认为向她应许的那一位是信实的。

也不因为是亚伯拉罕的后裔，就都是他的儿女；只有“从以撒生的，才会被称为你的后裔。”这就是说，肉身的儿女并不是神的儿女，只有应许的儿女才算是后裔。

耶和华照着他所说的眷顾了撒拉，照着他所应许的为撒拉成就了。撒拉怀了孕，到了神对亚伯拉罕说的那个所定时期，在亚伯拉罕年老的时候，为他生了一个儿子。

其中一位说：“明年这时候，我一定回到你这里。看哪，你的妻子撒拉将会有一个儿子！”当时撒拉正在那人后面的帐篷入口听着。亚伯拉罕和撒拉都已经老了，上了年纪，撒拉的月事也停止了。撒拉暗笑，心里说：“我已经衰老，我的丈夫也老了，我还能有这等快乐吗？”耶和华对亚伯拉罕说：“撒拉为什么暗笑，说：‘我已经老了，真的还能生育吗？’在耶和华还有难成的事吗？到了所定的时期，明年这时候，我必回到你这里；那时撒拉就会有一个儿子。”

不过弟兄们，你们就像以撒一样，是应许的儿女。但正如那由肉体生的当时逼迫了那由圣灵生的，现在也是这样。

亚伯拉罕在没有盼望的时候，仍然怀着盼望去相信，因而成为众多民族的父，正如先前所说：“你的后裔将要如此众多。”他快到一百岁的时候，想到自己的身体如同已经死了，又想到撒拉也已经不能生育，但是他的信仰却没有软弱。他也没有因着不信去怀疑神的应许，反而因着信得以刚强，把荣耀归给神，并且确信不疑：神所应许的，神也能成就。

神对亚伯拉罕说：“至于你的妻子撒莱，你不要再叫她撒莱，她的名字要叫撒拉。我要祝福她，也要藉着她赐给你一个儿子。我要祝福她，她将成为多国之母，万族的君王要从她而出。”亚伯拉罕就脸伏于地笑了，心里说：“难道一百岁的人还能生孩子吗？就是撒拉也已经九十岁了，还能生育吗？”亚伯拉罕对神说：“但愿以实玛利活在你面前。”神说：“不，你的妻子撒拉将为你生一个儿子，你要给他起名为以撒。我要与他确立我的约，作为他后裔永远的约。

然而，这是怎么说呢？“这话就在你身边，在你口中，在你心里。”这就是我们所传的有关信仰的话语：
