爾願服律者其告我、爾不聞律乎、

爾欲服法、試言爾聽法乎、

爾欲服律法下者、且告我、爾不聽律法乎、

惟望爾明以示我爾既遵守律法、曷一諦審律法之精義乎。

You who want to be under the authority of the law, tell me something. Don’t you know what the law says?

Tell me, you who desire to be under the law, do you not listen to the law?

Tell me, you who want to live under the law, do you know what the law actually says?

Tell me, you who want to be under the law, don’t you hear the law?

Tell me, you who want to be under law, do you not listen to the Law?

Tell me, you who desire to be under the law, do you not hear the law?

For all who rely on the works of the law are under a curse, as it is written:“ Cursed is everyone who does not continue to do everything written in the Book of the Law.”

Jesus replied,“ You are in error because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God.At the resurrection people will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven.But about the resurrection of the dead— have you not read what God said to you,‘ I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’? He is not the God of the dead but of the living.”

Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be silenced and the whole world held accountable to God.

Before the coming of this faith, we were held in custody under the law, locked up until the faith that was to come would be revealed.So the law was our guardian until Christ came that we might be justified by faith.

If you believed Moses, you would believe me, for he wrote about me.But since you do not believe what he wrote, how are you going to believe what I say?”

Jesus said to them,“ Have you never read in the Scriptures:“‘ The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; the Lord has done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes’“ Therefore I tell you that the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people who will produce its fruit.Anyone who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces; anyone on whom it falls will be crushed.”

Since they did not know the righteousness of God and sought to establish their own, they did not submit to God’s righteousness.Christ is the culmination of the law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes.Moses writes this about the righteousness that is by the law:“ The person who does these things will live by them.”But the righteousness that is by faith says:“ Do not say in your heart,‘ Who will ascend into heaven?’”( that is, to bring Christ down)“ or‘ Who will descend into the deep?’”( that is, to bring Christ up from the dead).But what does it say?“ The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart,” that is, the message concerning faith that we proclaim:If you declare with your mouth,“ Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.

But now that you know God— or rather are known by God— how is it that you are turning back to those weak and miserable forces? Do you wish to be enslaved by them all over again?

What then shall we say? That the Gentiles, who did not pursue righteousness, have obtained it, a righteousness that is by faith;but the people of Israel, who pursued the law as the way of righteousness, have not attained their goal.Why not? Because they pursued it not by faith but as if it were by works. They stumbled over the stumbling stone.

Jesus answered them,“ Is it not written in your Law,‘ I have said you are“ gods”’?

But this is to fulfill what is written in their Law:‘ They hated me without reason.’

For sin shall no longer be your master, because you are not under the law, but under grace.

For when we were in the realm of the flesh, the sinful passions aroused by the law were at work in us, so that we bore fruit for death.But now, by dying to what once bound us, we have been released from the law so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit, and not in the old way of the written code.

The crowd spoke up,“ We have heard from the Law that the Messiah will remain forever, so how can you say,‘ The Son of Man must be lifted up’? Who is this‘ Son of Man’?”
