然則律法何益、曰、為罪愆而設、待受應許之裔至焉、且律法傳授、藉天使、託中保之手、

然則律法何為而作乎？蓋人多為非作惡、乃有律法之添設、以俟承受嗣業者之來臨。且律法之制、乃由主之使者授之於居間人之手。

Why, then, was the law given at all? It was added because of transgressions until the Seed to whom the promise referred had come. The law was given through angels and entrusted to a mediator.

You received the law as it was ordained by angels, and didn’t keep it!”

What shall we say then? Is the law sin? May it never be! However, I wouldn’t have known sin, except through the law. For I wouldn’t have known coveting, unless the law had said,“ You shall not covet.”But sin, finding occasion through the commandment, produced in me all kinds of coveting. For apart from the law, sin is dead.I was alive apart from the law once, but when the commandment came, sin revived, and I died.The commandment which was for life, this I found to be for death;for sin, finding occasion through the commandment, deceived me, and through it killed me.Therefore the law indeed is holy, and the commandment holy, and righteous, and good.Did then that which is good become death to me? May it never be! But sin, that it might be shown to be sin, was producing death in me through that which is good; that through the commandment sin might become exceedingly sinful.

Now the promises were spoken to Abraham and to his offspring. He doesn’t say,“ To descendants”, as of many, but as of one,“ To your offspring”, which is Christ.

The law came in that the trespass might abound; but where sin abounded, grace abounded more exceedingly;that as sin reigned in death, even so grace might reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

For if the word spoken through angels proved steadfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just penalty,

( I stood between Yahweh and you at that time, to show you Yahweh’s word; for you were afraid because of the fire, and didn’t go up onto the mountain) saying,

For the law produces wrath, for where there is no law, neither is there disobedience.

For it isn’t the hearers of the law who are righteous before God, but the doers of the law will be justified

This is he who was in the assembly in the wilderness with the angel that spoke to him on Mount Sinai, and with our fathers, who received living revelations to give to us,

If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not have had sin; but now they have no excuse for their sin.

But we know that the law is good, if a person uses it lawfully,as knowing this, that law is not made for a righteous person, but for the lawless and insubordinate, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers,

Now we know that whatever things the law says, it speaks to those who are under the law, that every mouth may be closed, and all the world may be brought under the judgment of God.Because by the works of the law, no flesh will be justified in his sight; for through the law comes the knowledge of sin.

For the law was given through Moses. Grace and truth were realized through Jesus Christ.

For he didn’t subject the world to come, of which we speak, to angels.

He said,“ Yahweh came from Sinai, and rose from Seir to them. He shone from Mount Paran. He came from the ten thousands of holy ones. At his right hand was a fiery law for them.

Is the law then against the promises of God? Certainly not! For if there had been a law given which could make alive, most certainly righteousness would have been of the law.But the Scripture imprisoned all things under sin, that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe.But before faith came, we were kept in custody under the law, confined for the faith which should afterwards be revealed.So that the law has become our tutor to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith.But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor.

Then what advantage does the Jew have? Or what is the profit of circumcision?Much in every way! Because first of all, they were entrusted with the revelations of God.

Therefore he said that he would destroy them, had Moses, his chosen, not stood before him in the breach, to turn away his wrath, so that he wouldn’t destroy them.

He said to Moses,“ Come up to Yahweh, you, and Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel; and worship from a distance.Moses alone shall come near to Yahweh, but they shall not come near. The people shall not go up with him.”Moses came and told the people all Yahweh’s words, and all the ordinances; and all the people answered with one voice, and said,“ All the words which Yahweh has spoken will we do.”Moses wrote all Yahweh’s words, then rose up early in the morning and built an altar at the base of the mountain, with twelve pillars for the twelve tribes of Israel.He sent young men of the children of Israel, who offered burnt offerings and sacrificed peace offerings of cattle to Yahweh.Moses took half of the blood and put it in basins, and half of the blood he sprinkled on the altar.He took the book of the covenant and read it in the hearing of the people, and they said,“ We will do all that Yahweh has said, and be obedient.”Moses took the blood, and sprinkled it on the people, and said,“ Look, this is the blood of the covenant, which Yahweh has made with you concerning all these words.”Then Moses, Aaron, Nadab, Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel went up.They saw the God of Israel. Under his feet was like a paved work of sapphire stone, like the skies for clearness.He didn’t lay his hand on the nobles of the children of Israel. They saw God, and ate and drank.Yahweh said to Moses,“ Come up to me on the mountain, and stay here, and I will give you the stone tablets with the law and the commands that I have written, that you may teach them.”

“ Don’t think that I will accuse you to the Father. There is one who accuses you, even Moses, on whom you have set your hope.For if you believed Moses, you would believe me; for he wrote about me.But if you don’t believe his writings, how will you believe my words?”

Yahweh your God will raise up to you a prophet from among you, of your brothers, like me. You shall listen to him.This is according to all that you desired of Yahweh your God in Horeb in the day of the assembly, saying,“ Let me not hear again Yahweh my God’s voice, neither let me see this great fire any more, that I not die.”Yahweh said to me,“ They have well said that which they have spoken.I will raise them up a prophet from among their brothers, like you. I will put my words in his mouth, and he shall speak to them all that I shall command him.It shall happen, that whoever will not listen to my words which he shall speak in my name, I will require it of him.

But I say that so long as the heir is a child, he is no different from a bondservant, though he is lord of all,but is under guardians and stewards until the day appointed by the father.So we also, when we were children, were held in bondage under the elemental principles of the world.But when the fullness of the time came, God sent out his Son, born to a woman, born under the law,

“ He said to him,‘ If they don’t listen to Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded if one rises from the dead.’”

Yahweh spoke these words to all your assembly on the mountain out of the middle of the fire, of the cloud, and of the thick darkness, with a great voice. He added no more. He wrote them on two stone tablets, and gave them to me.When you heard the voice out of the middle of the darkness, while the mountain was burning with fire, you came near to me, even all the heads of your tribes, and your elders;and you said,“ Behold, Yahweh our God has shown us his glory and his greatness, and we have heard his voice out of the middle of the fire. We have seen today that God does speak with man, and he lives.Now therefore, why should we die? For this great fire will consume us. If we hear Yahweh our God’s voice any more, then we shall die.For who is there of all flesh, that has heard the voice of the living God speaking out of the middle of the fire, as we have, and lived?Go near, and hear all that Yahweh our God shall say, and tell us all that Yahweh our God tells you; and we will hear it, and do it.”Yahweh heard the voice of your words when you spoke to me; and Yahweh said to me,“ I have heard the voice of the words of this people which they have spoken to you. They have well said all that they have spoken.Oh that there were such a heart in them that they would fear me and keep all my commandments always, that it might be well with them and with their children forever!“ Go tell them,‘ Return to your tents.’But as for you, stand here by me, and I will tell you all the commandments, and the statutes, and the ordinances, which you shall teach them, that they may do them in the land which I give them to possess.”You shall observe to do therefore as Yahweh your God has commanded you. You shall not turn away to the right hand or to the left.You shall walk in all the way which Yahweh your God has commanded you, that you may live and that it may be well with you, and that you may prolong your days in the land which you shall possess.

This is the law of him who has a discharge, and of him who has an emission of semen, so that he is unclean by it;

They said to Moses,“ Speak with us yourself, and we will listen; but don’t let God speak with us, lest we die.”Moses said to the people,“ Don’t be afraid, for God has come to test you, and that his fear may be before you, that you won’t sin.”The people stayed at a distance, and Moses came near to the thick darkness where God was.Yahweh said to Moses,“ This is what you shall tell the children of Israel:‘ You yourselves have seen that I have talked with you from heaven.

Yahweh said to Moses,“ Write these words; for in accordance with these words I have made a covenant with you and with Israel.”He was there with Yahweh forty days and forty nights; he neither ate bread, nor drank water. He wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant, the ten commandments.When Moses came down from Mount Sinai with the two tablets of the covenant in Moses’ hand, when he came down from the mountain, Moses didn’t know that the skin of his face shone by reason of his speaking with him.When Aaron and all the children of Israel saw Moses, behold, the skin of his face shone; and they were afraid to come near him.Moses called to them, and Aaron and all the rulers of the congregation returned to him; and Moses spoke to them.Afterward all the children of Israel came near, and he gave them all the commandments that Yahweh had spoken with him on Mount Sinai.When Moses was done speaking with them, he put a veil on his face.But when Moses went in before Yahweh to speak with him, he took the veil off, until he came out; and he came out, and spoke to the children of Israel that which he was commanded.The children of Israel saw Moses’ face, that the skin of Moses’ face shone; so Moses put the veil on his face again, until he went in to speak with him.

So I fell down before Yahweh the forty days and forty nights that I fell down, because Yahweh had said he would destroy you.I prayed to Yahweh, and said,“ Lord Yahweh, don’t destroy your people and your inheritance that you have redeemed through your greatness, that you have brought out of Egypt with a mighty hand.Remember your servants, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Don’t look at the stubbornness of this people, nor at their wickedness, nor at their sin,lest the land you brought us out from say,‘ Because Yahweh was not able to bring them into the land which he promised to them, and because he hated them, he has brought them out to kill them in the wilderness.’Yet they are your people and your inheritance, which you brought out by your great power and by your outstretched arm.”

Furthermore Yahweh spoke to me, saying,“ I have seen this people, and behold, it is a stiff- necked people.Leave me alone, that I may destroy them, and blot out their name from under the sky; and I will make of you a nation mightier and greater than they.”So I turned and came down from the mountain, and the mountain was burning with fire. The two tablets of the covenant were in my two hands.I looked, and behold, you had sinned against Yahweh your God. You had made yourselves a molded calf. You had quickly turned away from the way which Yahweh had commanded you.I took hold of the two tablets, and threw them out of my two hands, and broke them before your eyes.I fell down before Yahweh, as at the first, forty days and forty nights. I neither ate bread nor drank water, because of all your sin which you sinned, in doing that which was evil in Yahweh’s sight, to provoke him to anger.For I was afraid of the anger and hot displeasure with which Yahweh was angry against you to destroy you. But Yahweh listened to me that time also.Yahweh was angry enough with Aaron to destroy him. I prayed for Aaron also at the same time.

What great nation is there that has statutes and ordinances so righteous as all this law which I set before you today?Only be careful, and keep your soul diligently, lest you forget the things which your eyes saw, and lest they depart from your heart all the days of your life; but make them known to your children and your children’s children—

He shows his word to Jacob, his statutes and his ordinances to Israel.He has not done this for just any nation. They don’t know his ordinances. Praise Yah!
