As for those who were held in high esteem— whatever they were makes no difference to me; God does not show favoritism— they added nothing to my message.

Some people in Jerusalem were thought to be important. But it makes no difference to me what they were. God does not treat people differently. Those people added nothing to my message.

And the leaders of the church had nothing to add to what I was preaching.( By the way, their reputation as great leaders made no difference to me, for God has no favorites.)

Now from those recognized as important( what they once were makes no difference to me; God does not show favoritism)— they added nothing to me.

But from those who were of considerable repute( what they were makes no difference to me; God shows no favoritism)— well, those who were of repute contributed nothing to me.

But from those who seemed to be something— whatever they were, it makes no difference to me; God shows personal favoritism to no man— for those who seemed to be something added nothing to me.

But from those who were reputed to be somewhat( whatsoever they were, it maketh no matter to me: God accepteth not man’s person)— they, I say, who were of repute imparted nothing to me:

Now from those recognized as important( what they really were makes no difference to me; God does not show favoritism)— they added nothing to me.

But of these who seemed to be somewhat,( whatsoever they were, it maketh no matter to me: God accepteth no man’s person:) for they who seemed[ to be somewhat] in conference added nothing to me:

But from those who were influential( whatever they were makes no difference to me; God shows no favoritism between people)– those influential leaders added nothing to my message.

But from those who were reputed to be important— whatever they were, it makes no difference to me; God doesn’t show partiality to man— they, I say, who were respected imparted nothing to me,

I went up because of a revelation and set before them( though privately before those who seemed influential) the gospel that I proclaim among the Gentiles, in order to make sure I was not running or had not run in vain.

So Peter opened his mouth and said:“ Truly I understand that God shows no partiality,

I have been a fool! You forced me to it, for I ought to have been commended by you. For I was not at all inferior to these super-apostles, even though I am nothing.

For if anyone thinks he is something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself.

Indeed, I consider that I am not in the least inferior to these super-apostles.

For God shows no partiality.

Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they are keeping watch over your souls, as those who will have to give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with groaning, for that would be of no advantage to you.

To my shame, I must say, we were too weak for that! But whatever anyone else dares to boast of— I am speaking as a fool— I also dare to boast of that.Are they Hebrews? So am I. Are they Israelites? So am I. Are they offspring of Abraham? So am I.Are they servants of Christ? I am a better one— I am talking like a madman— with far greater labors, far more imprisonments, with countless beatings, and often near death.

And if you call on him as Father who judges impartially according to each one’s deeds, conduct yourselves with fear throughout the time of your exile,

And Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite answered and said:“ I am young in years, and you are aged; therefore I was timid and afraid to declare my opinion to you.I said,‘ Let days speak, and many years teach wisdom.’

And they sent their disciples to him, along with the Herodians, saying,“ Teacher, we know that you are true and teach the way of God truthfully, and you do not care about anyone’s opinion, for you are not swayed by appearances.

who shows no partiality to princes, nor regards the rich more than the poor, for they are all the work of his hands?

Remember your leaders, those who spoke to you the word of God. Consider the outcome of their way of life, and imitate their faith.

The apostles and the elders were gathered together to consider this matter.And after there had been much debate, Peter stood up and said to them,“ Brothers, you know that in the early days God made a choice among you, that by my mouth the Gentiles should hear the word of the gospel and believe.And God, who knows the heart, bore witness to them, by giving them the Holy Spirit just as he did to us,and he made no distinction between us and them, having cleansed their hearts by faith.Now, therefore, why are you putting God to the test by placing a yoke on the neck of the disciples that neither our fathers nor we have been able to bear?But we believe that we will be saved through the grace of the Lord Jesus, just as they will.”And all the assembly fell silent, and they listened to Barnabas and Paul as they related what signs and wonders God had done through them among the Gentiles.After they finished speaking, James replied,“ Brothers, listen to me.Simeon has related how God first visited the Gentiles, to take from them a people for his name.And with this the words of the prophets agree, just as it is written,“‘ After this I will return, and I will rebuild the tent of David that has fallen; I will rebuild its ruins, and I will restore it,that the remnant of mankind may seek the Lord, and all the Gentiles who are called by my name, says the Lord, who makes these thingsknown from of old.’Therefore my judgment is that we should not trouble those of the Gentiles who turn to God,but should write to them to abstain from the things polluted by idols, and from sexual immorality, and from what has been strangled, and from blood.For from ancient generations Moses has had in every city those who proclaim him, for he is read every Sabbath in the synagogues.”Then it seemed good to the apostles and the elders, with the whole church, to choose men from among them and send them to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas. They sent Judas called Barsabbas, and Silas, leading men among the brothers,with the following letter:“ The brothers, both the apostles and the elders, to the brothers who are of the Gentiles in Antioch and Syria and Cilicia, greetings.Since we have heard that some persons have gone out from us and troubled you with words, unsettling your minds, although we gave them no instructions,it has seemed good to us, having come to one accord, to choose men and send them to you with our beloved Barnabas and Paul,men who have risked their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.We have therefore sent Judas and Silas, who themselves will tell you the same things by word of mouth.For it has seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us to lay on you no greater burden than these requirements:that you abstain from what has been sacrificed to idols, and from blood, and from what has been strangled, and from sexual immorality. If you keep yourselves from these, you will do well. Farewell.”

For it was Herod who had sent and seized John and bound him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife, because he had married her.For John had been saying to Herod,“ It is not lawful for you to have your brother’s wife.”And Herodias had a grudge against him and wanted to put him to death. But she could not,for Herod feared John, knowing that he was a righteous and holy man, and he kept him safe. When he heard him, he was greatly perplexed, and yet he heard him gladly.

I also will answer with my share; I also will declare my opinion.For I am full of words; the spirit within me constrains me.Behold, my belly is like wine that has no vent; like new wineskins ready to burst.I must speak, that I may find relief; I must open my lips and answer.I will not show partiality to any man or use flattery toward any person.For I do not know how to flatter, else my Maker would soon take me away.

From now on, therefore, we regard no one according to the flesh. Even though we once regarded Christ according to the flesh, we regard him thus no longer.

So they asked him,“ Teacher, we know that you speak and teach rightly, and show no partiality, but truly teach the way of God.

And they came and said to him,“ Teacher, we know that you are true and do not care about anyone’s opinion. For you are not swayed by appearances, but truly teach the way of God. Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not? Should we pay them, or should we not?”

and when James and Cephas and John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the grace that was given to me, they gave the right hand of fellowship to Barnabas and me, that we should go to the Gentiles and they to the circumcised.Only, they asked us to remember the poor, the very thing I was eager to do.But when Cephas came to Antioch, I opposed him to his face, because he stood condemned.For before certain men came from James, he was eating with the Gentiles; but when they came he drew back and separated himself, fearing the circumcision party.And the rest of the Jews acted hypocritically along with him, so that even Barnabas was led astray by their hypocrisy.But when I saw that their conduct was not in step with the truth of the gospel, I said to Cephas before them all,“ If you, though a Jew, live like a Gentile and not like a Jew, how can you force the Gentiles to live like Jews?”
