When I saw that they were not acting in line with the truth of the gospel, I said to Cephas in front of them all,“ You are a Jew, yet you live like a Gentile and not like a Jew. How is it, then, that you force Gentiles to follow Jewish customs?

我見其行不端、不依福音之真、遂於眾前語之曰、爾猶太人也、所行既如異邦人、非如猶太人、胡為強異邦人如猶太人乎、

予見若輩之行、不遵福音正道、乃當眾而謂基法曰：『夫汝雖猶太人、起居飲食、猶且從眾、而不復拘泥於猶太俗矣。則又安得強外邦人從猶太俗乎？

I saw what they were doing. It was not in line with the truth of the good news. So I spoke to Peter in front of them all.“ You are a Jew,” I said.“ But you live like one who is not. So why do you force Gentiles to follow Jewish ways?”

But when I saw that their conduct was not in step with the truth of the gospel, I said to Cephas before them all,“ If you, though a Jew, live like a Gentile and not like a Jew, how can you force the Gentiles to live like Jews?”

When I saw that they were not following the truth of the gospel message, I said to Peter in front of all the others,“ Since you, a Jew by birth, have discarded the Jewish laws and are living like a Gentile, why are you now trying to make these Gentiles follow the Jewish traditions?

But when I saw that they were deviating from the truth of the gospel, I told Cephas in front of everyone,“ If you, who are a Jew, live like a Gentile and not like a Jew, how can you compel Gentiles to live like Jews?”

But when I saw that they were deviating from the truth of the gospel, I told Cephas in front of everyone,“ If you, who are a Jew, live like a Gentile and not like a Jew, how can you compel Gentiles to live like Jews?”

But when I saw that they walked not uprightly according to the truth of the gospel, I said unto Peter before[ them] all, If thou, being a Jew, livest after the manner of Gentiles, and not as do the Jews, why compellest thou the Gentiles to live as do the Jews?

But when I saw that they were not behaving consistently with the truth of the gospel, I said to Cephas in front of them all,“ If you, although you are a Jew, live like a Gentile and not like a Jew, how can you try to force the Gentiles to live like Jews?”

But when I saw that they didn’t walk uprightly according to the truth of the Good News, I said to Peter before them all,“ If you, being a Jew, live as the Gentiles do, and not as the Jews do, why do you compel the Gentiles to live as the Jews do?

We did not give in to them for a moment, so that the truth of the gospel might be preserved for you.

He said to them:“ You are well aware that it is against our law for a Jew to associate with or visit a Gentile. But God has shown me that I should not call anyone impure or unclean.

Now then, why do you try to test God by putting on the necks of Gentiles a yoke that neither we nor our ancestors have been able to bear?No! We believe it is through the grace of our Lord Jesus that we are saved, just as they are.”

But those elders who are sinning you are to reprove before everyone, so that the others may take warning.

He holds success in store for the upright, he is a shield to those whose walk is blameless,

Those who want to impress people by means of the flesh are trying to compel you to be circumcised. The only reason they do this is to avoid being persecuted for the cross of Christ.

For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor; no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless.

It seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us not to burden you with anything beyond the following requirements:You are to abstain from food sacrificed to idols, from blood, from the meat of strangled animals and from sexual immorality. You will do well to avoid these things. Farewell.

We have heard that some went out from us without our authorization and disturbed you, troubling your minds by what they said.

The one whose walk is blameless, who does what is righteous, who speaks the truth from their heart;

When Cephas came to Antioch, I opposed him to his face, because he stood condemned.For before certain men came from James, he used to eat with the Gentiles. But when they arrived, he began to draw back and separate himself from the Gentiles because he was afraid of those who belonged to the circumcision group.The other Jews joined him in his hypocrisy, so that by their hypocrisy even Barnabas was led astray.

Let a righteous man strike me— that is a kindness; let him rebuke me— that is oil on my head. My head will not refuse it, for my prayer will still be against the deeds of evildoers.

and said,“ You went into the house of uncircumcised men and ate with them.”Starting from the beginning, Peter told them the whole story:“ I was in the city of Joppa praying, and in a trance I saw a vision. I saw something like a large sheet being let down from heaven by its four corners, and it came down to where I was.I looked into it and saw four- footed animals of the earth, wild beasts, reptiles and birds.Then I heard a voice telling me,‘ Get up, Peter. Kill and eat.’“ I replied,‘ Surely not, Lord! Nothing impure or unclean has ever entered my mouth.’“ The voice spoke from heaven a second time,‘ Do not call anything impure that God has made clean.’This happened three times, and then it was all pulled up to heaven again.“ Right then three men who had been sent to me from Caesarea stopped at the house where I was staying.The Spirit told me to have no hesitation about going with them. These six brothers also went with me, and we entered the man’s house.He told us how he had seen an angel appear in his house and say,‘ Send to Joppa for Simon who is called Peter.He will bring you a message through which you and all your household will be saved.’“ As I began to speak, the Holy Spirit came on them as he had come on us at the beginning.Then I remembered what the Lord had said:‘ John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’So if God gave them the same gift he gave us who believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I to think that I could stand in God’s way?”When they heard this, they had no further objections and praised God, saying,“ So then, even to Gentiles God has granted repentance that leads to life.”

Whoever walks in integrity walks securely, but whoever takes crooked paths will be found out.

“ Make level paths for your feet,” so that the lame may not be disabled, but rather healed.

“‘ Do not hate a fellow Israelite in your heart. Rebuke your neighbor frankly so you will not share in their guilt.

James, Cephas and John, those esteemed as pillars, gave me and Barnabas the right hand of fellowship when they recognized the grace given to me. They agreed that we should go to the Gentiles, and they to the circumcised.

On the contrary, they recognized that I had been entrusted with the task of preaching the gospel to the uncircumcised, just as Peter had been to the circumcised.

Do you rulers indeed speak justly? Do you judge people with equity?

I am convinced, being fully persuaded in the Lord Jesus, that nothing is unclean in itself. But if anyone regards something as unclean, then for that person it is unclean.

They forbid people to marry and order them to abstain from certain foods, which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and who know the truth.For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving,because it is consecrated by the word of God and prayer.

“ It is my judgment, therefore, that we should not make it difficult for the Gentiles who are turning to God.Instead we should write to them, telling them to abstain from food polluted by idols, from sexual immorality, from the meat of strangled animals and from blood.For the law of Moses has been preached in every city from the earliest times and is read in the synagogues on every Sabbath.”

They are only a matter of food and drink and various ceremonial washings— external regulations applying until the time of the new order.

Better is open rebuke than hidden love.Wounds from a friend can be trusted, but an enemy multiplies kisses.

Yet not even Titus, who was with me, was compelled to be circumcised, even though he was a Greek.
