After all that has happened to us because of our evil deeds and terrible guilt— though you, our God, have punished us less than our iniquities deserve and have allowed us to survive—

因我們的壞行為和大罪過，我們才遭遇了這一切的事，並且我們的上帝你懲罰我們、也輕於我們的罪愆所應得的，又給我們留下這樣的逃脫人；

我緣惡行大罪、遭斯諸事、而爾我之上帝加罰、較之我罪維輕、且以若許遺民賜我、

我之上帝與、我罪大惡重、故罹災害、爾雖加刑、猶不及其罪、反援手以拯我、

我天主歟、我因惡行大罪、遭遇此事之後、我天主仍惜我、雖罰我、猶不及我罪、雖罰我猶不及我罪或作不按我重罪而罰我賜我如斯之拯救、

“ What has happened to us is a result of our evil deeds and our great guilt, and yet, our God, you have punished us less than our sins deserved and have given us a remnant like this.

“ Our evil acts and our terrible sins have brought about the things that have happened to us. You are our God. Because we sinned so much, you should have punished us even more than you have. But you have left many of your people alive.

And after all that has come upon us for our evil deeds and for our great guilt, seeing that you, our God, have punished us less than our iniquities deserved and have given us such a remnant as this,

“ Now we are being punished because of our wickedness and our great guilt. But we have actually been punished far less than we deserve, for you, our God, have allowed some of us to survive as a remnant.

And after everything that has come upon us for our evil deeds and our great guilt, since You our God have spared us by inflicting less than our wrongdoing deserves, and have given us such an escaped remnant as this,

“ Everything that has happened to us has come about because of our wicked actions and our great guilt. Even so, our God, you have exercised restraint toward our iniquities and have given us a remnant such as this.

“ After all that has come on us for our evil deeds, and for our great guilt, since you, our God, have punished us less than our iniquities deserve, and have given us such a remnant,

He has not dealt with us as our sins deserve or repaid us according to our iniquities.

He would show you the secrets of wisdom, for true wisdom has two sides. Know then that God has chosen to overlook some of your iniquity.

Did you experience so much for nothing— if in fact it was for nothing?

Why should any living person complain, any man, because of the punishment for his sins?Let’s examine and probe our ways, and turn back to the LORD.

And I said: My God, I am ashamed and embarrassed to lift my face toward you, my God, because our iniquities are higher than our heads and our guilt is as high as the heavens.Our guilt has been terrible from the days of our ancestors until the present. Because of our iniquities we have been handed over, along with our kings and priests, to the surrounding kings, and to the sword, captivity, plundering, and open shame, as it is today.But now, for a brief moment, grace has come from the LORD our God to preserve a remnant for us and give us a stake in his holy place. Even in our slavery, God has given us a little relief and light to our eyes.

remembered his covenant with them, and relented according to the abundance of his faithful love.He caused them to be pitied before all their captors.

LORD, I have heard the report about you; LORD, I stand in awe of your deeds. Revive your work in these years; make it known in these years. In your wrath remember mercy!

Because of the LORD’s faithful love we do not perish, for his mercies never end.

Because of the depravity of your uncleanness— since I tried to purify you, but you would not be purified from your uncleanness— you will not be pure again until I have satisfied my wrath on you.I, the LORD, have spoken. It is coming, and I will do it! I will not refrain, I will not show pity, and I will not relent. I will judge you according to your ways and deeds. This is the declaration of the Lord GOD.’”

So now, our God— the great, mighty, and awe-inspiring God who keeps his gracious covenant— do not view lightly all the hardships that have afflicted us, our kings and leaders, our priests and prophets, our ancestors and all your people, from the days of the Assyrian kings until today.
