There, by the Ahava Canal, I proclaimed a fast, so that we might humble ourselves before our God and ask him for a safe journey for us and our children, with all our possessions.

By the canal that flows toward Ahava, I announced a fast. I told the people not to eat any food. In that way, we made ourselves humble in God’s sight. We prayed that he would give us and our children a safe journey. We asked him to keep safe everything we owned.

For whoever it is who shall not deny himself in that same day shall be cut off from his people.

Lead me, Yahweh, in your righteousness because of my enemies. Make your way straight before my face.

Let the redeemed by Yahweh say so, whom he has redeemed from the hand of the adversary,And gathered out of the lands, from the east and from the west, from the north and from the south.They wandered in the wilderness in a desert way. Is this the fast that I have chosen? A day for a man to humble his soul? Is it to bow down his head like a reed, and to spread sackcloth and ashes under himself? Will you call this a fast, and an acceptable day to Yahweh?

The people of Nineveh believed God; and they proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from their greatest even to their least.

“ Yet even now,” says Yahweh,“ turn to me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning.”Tear your heart, and not your garments, and turn to Yahweh, your God; for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abundant in loving kindness, and relents from sending calamity.Who knows? He may turn and relent, and leave a blessing behind him, even a meal offering and a drink offering to Yahweh, your God.Blow the trumpet in Zion! Sanctify a fast. Let the bridegroom go out of his room, and the bride out of her room.Let the priests, the ministers of Yahweh, weep between the porch and the altar, and let them say,“ Spare your people, Yahweh, and don’t give your heritage to reproach, that the nations should rule over them. Why should they say among the peoples,‘ Where is their God?’”Then Yahweh was jealous for his land, And had pity on his people.

In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

From the lips of babes and infants you have established strength, because of your adversaries, that you might silence the enemy and the avenger.

“ In those days, and in that time,” says Yahweh,“ the children of Israel will come, they and the children of Judah together; they will go on their way weeping, and will seek Yahweh their God.They will inquire concerning Zion with their faces turned toward it, saying,‘ Come, and join yourselves to Yahweh in an everlasting covenant that will not be forgotten.’

Behold, I will bring them from the north country, and gather them from the uttermost parts of the earth, along with the blind and the lame, the woman with child and her who travails with child together. They will return as a great company.They will come with weeping. I will lead them with petitions. I will cause them to walk by rivers of waters, in a straight way in which they won’t stumble; for I am a father to Israel. Ephraim is my firstborn.

They were bringing to him little children, that he should touch them, but the disciples rebuked those who were bringing them.But when Jesus saw it, he was moved with indignation, and said to them,“ Allow the little children to come to me! Don’t forbid them, for God’s Kingdom belongs to such as these.Most certainly I tell you, whoever will not receive God’s Kingdom like a little child, he will in no way enter into it.”He took them in his arms, and blessed them, laying his hands on them.

Yahweh, I know that the way of man is not in himself. It is not in man who walks to direct his steps.

It is a Sabbath of solemn rest to you, and you shall afflict your souls. It is a statute forever.

Why does Yahweh bring us to this land, to fall by the sword? Our wives and our little ones will be captured or killed! Wouldn’t it be better for us to return into Egypt?”

A highway will be there, a road, and it will be called“ The Holy Way”. The unclean shall not pass over it, but it will be for those who walk in the Way. Wicked fools shall not go there.

But I will bring your little ones that you said should be captured or killed in, and they shall know the land which you have rejected.

They shall not hunger nor thirst; neither shall the heat nor sun strike them: for he who has mercy on them will lead them. He will guide them by springs of water.

Then all the children of Israel and all the people went up, and came to Bethel, and wept, and sat there before Yahweh, and fasted that day until evening; then they offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before Yahweh.
