And on that day they offered great sacrifices and rejoiced, for God had given them great joy. The women and children also rejoiced. The rejoicing in Jerusalem could be heard from far away.

On the eighth day they held an assembly, for they had dedicated the altar for seven days and celebrated the festival for seven more days.On the twenty-third day of the seventh month, Solomon sent the people home. There was a great celebration in Jerusalem, unlike anything that had occurred in Jerusalem since the time of King Solomon son of David of Israel.

All Israel brought up the ark of the LORD’s covenant; they were shouting, blowing trumpets, sounding cymbals, and playing stringed instruments.

With antiphonal response they sang, praising and glorifying the LORD:“ For he is good; his loyal love toward Israel is forever.” All the people gave a loud shout as they praised the LORD when the temple of the LORD was established.Many of the priests, the Levites, and the leaders– older people who had seen with their own eyes the former temple while it was still established– were weeping loudly, and many others raised their voice in a joyous shout.

The priests, the Levites, the gatekeepers, the singers, some of the people, the temple servants, and all the rest of Israel lived in their cities. When the seventh month arrived and the Israelites were settled in their cities,
