犹大和便雅悯的敌人听说被掳归回的人为耶和华以色列的神建造殿宇，

人对我说：“我们往耶和华的殿去。”我就欢喜。

那日，众人献大祭而欢乐；因为神使他们大大欢乐，连妇女带孩童也都欢乐，甚至耶路撒冷中的欢声听到远处。

你们要靠主常常喜乐。我再说，你们要喜乐。

在那里，耶和华你们神的面前，你们和你们的家属都可以吃，并且因你手所办的一切事蒙耶和华你的神赐福，就都欢乐。

第八日设立严肃会，行奉献坛的礼七日，守节七日。七月二十三日，王遣散众民；他们因见耶和华向大卫和所罗门与他民以色列所施的恩惠，就都心中喜乐，各归各家去了。

先从巴比伦回来，住在自己地业城邑中的有以色列人、祭司、利未人、尼提宁的首领。

又对他们说：“你们去吃肥美的，喝甘甜的，有不能预备的就分给他，因为今日是我们主的圣日。你们不要忧愁，因靠耶和华而得的喜乐是你们的力量。”

这样，在耶路撒冷大有喜乐，自从以色列王大卫儿子所罗门的时候，在耶路撒冷没有这样的喜乐。

这样，以色列众人欢呼吹角、吹号、敲钹、鼓瑟、弹琴，大发响声，将耶和华的约柜抬上来。

他们彼此唱和，赞美称谢耶和华说：“他本为善，他向以色列人永发慈爱。”他们赞美耶和华的时候，众民大声呼喊，因耶和华殿的根基已经立定。然而有许多祭司、利未人、族长，就是见过旧殿的老年人，现在亲眼看见立这殿的根基，便大声哭号，也有许多人大声欢呼，

于是祭司、利未人、守门的、歌唱的、民中的一些人、尼提宁，并以色列众人，各住在自己的城里。
