那天，眾人獻上許多祭物，滿心歡喜，因為上帝賜給他們極大的喜樂，連婦孺也都歡喜，以致耶路撒冷的歡聲遠處可聞。

你們要靠主常常喜樂！我再說，你們要喜樂！

你們和家人要在那裡，在你們的上帝耶和華面前吃喝；要為你們所做的一切蒙祂賜福而歡喜快樂。

第八天舉行莊嚴的聚會，又舉行七天獻壇禮。之後，他們又歡慶七天。七月二十三日，所羅門王讓民眾各回本鄉。他們看見耶和華向大衛、所羅門和祂的以色列子民所施的恩惠，就滿心歡喜地回家去了。

首先從巴比倫回到自己城邑的地業居住的有祭司、利未人、殿役和其他以色列人。

尼希米又說：「你們去吃肥美的肉，喝甘甜的酒，並分些給一無所有的人，因為今天是我們主的聖日。不要悲傷，因為從耶和華而來的喜樂就是你們的力量。」

全耶路撒冷都喜氣洋洋，因為自以色列王大衛的兒子所羅門時代以來，耶路撒冷從未有過這樣的盛會。

以色列人把耶和華的約櫃抬了上來，一路上歡呼吹角、鳴號、敲鈸、鼓瑟、彈琴，大聲奏樂。

他們彼此唱和，讚美、稱謝耶和華，說：「祂是美善的，因為祂向以色列人永施慈愛！」所有人都高聲歡呼讚美耶和華，因為耶和華殿的根基已經立好。許多曾見過舊殿的年長的祭司、利未人和族長看見這殿的根基，不禁放聲大哭，也有很多人高聲歡呼。

於是，祭司、利未人、殿門守衛、歌樂手、一些民眾、殿役和全體以色列人都住在自己的城裡。到了七月，以色列人都住在各自的城裡。
