「所羅巴伯的手奠立這殿的根基，他的手也必完成這項工程。那時你便知道是萬軍之耶和華差遣我到你們這裡來的。

你們要上山伐木，重建這殿，好讓我歡喜並得到尊崇。這是耶和華說的。

在回到耶路撒冷上帝殿的第二年二月，撒拉鐵的兒子所羅巴伯、約薩達的兒子耶書亞及其祭司和利未親族，以及所有從流亡之地回到耶路撒冷的人，開始重建耶和華的殿，並派二十歲以上的利未人做督工。

我又舉目觀看，見有人拿著準繩。於是我問：「你要去哪裡？」他回答說：「去丈量耶路撒冷，看看有多寬多長。」此前與我說話的天使離去時，迎著他走來另一位天使，對他說：「快跑去告訴那青年，『耶路撒冷必像沒有城牆限制的村莊，因為城中將有大量的人和牲畜。

「你去告訴撒拉鐵的兒子猶大省長所羅巴伯、約撒答的兒子大祭司約書亞和所有的餘民，『你們當中有誰見過這殿昔日的榮耀呢？現在你們看這殿如何？看上去豈不是一文不值嗎？所羅巴伯啊，你要剛強，這是耶和華說的。約撒答的兒子大祭司約書亞啊，你要剛強；這地方的所有百姓啊，你們要剛強。這是耶和華說的。你們要動工，因為我與你們同在。這是萬軍之耶和華說的。這是你們離開埃及時我對你們的應許。不要懼怕，我的靈仍住在你們當中。「『萬軍之耶和華說，不久，我要再次震動天、地、海洋和旱地。萬軍之耶和華說，我要震動萬國，萬國的珍寶都要送到這殿，我要使這殿充滿榮耀。萬軍之耶和華說，金子是我的，銀子也是我的。萬軍之耶和華說，我要使這殿比從前更加榮耀。萬軍之耶和華說，我要在這地方賜下平安。』」大流士王執政第二年九月二十四日，耶和華對先知哈該說：「萬軍之耶和華說，『你去問祭司，如果有人用衣服兜著祭肉，而衣服碰到餅、湯、酒、油或其他食物，這些被衣服碰到的食物會成為聖潔之物嗎？』」祭司們答道：「不會。」哈該又說：「如果因碰過屍體而變得不潔淨的人接觸這些食物，這些食物會變得不潔淨嗎？」祭司答道：「會變得不潔淨。」於是哈該說：「耶和華說，『這百姓和這國家在我面前也是如此。他們手中的各樣工作和他們在那裡所獻的都不潔淨。』「『從今以後，你們要回想重建耶和華殿之前的光景。

我說塞魯士是我的牧人，他必完成我的旨意，他會下令重建耶路撒冷，降旨奠定聖殿的根基。

我又舉目觀看，見有四輛馬車從兩座銅山之間出來。第一輛車套著紅馬，第二輛車套著黑馬，第三輛車套著白馬，第四輛車套著斑點馬，馬都很雄壯。我問與我說話的天使：「主啊，這些馬車是什麼意思？」天使說：「他們是侍立在天下之主面前的四靈，正在出發。」套著黑馬的車前往北方，套著白馬的車前往西方，套著斑點馬的車前往南方。這些雄壯的馬出來，迫不及待地要巡察大地。天使說：「你們去巡察大地吧！」牠們便遵命而行。他又高聲對我說：「看啊，那些到北方去的已在那裡使我的心得到安慰。」耶和華的話傳給了我，說：「被擄到巴比倫的黑玳、多比雅和耶大雅已經回來了，你要收集他們奉獻的金銀，並在當天去西番雅的兒子約西亞家。要用這些金銀製作冠冕，戴在約撒答的兒子約書亞大祭司頭上，告訴他，萬軍之耶和華說，『看啊，那被稱為大衛苗裔的要從自己的地方興起，建造耶和華的殿。祂必建造耶和華的殿，帶著王者的尊榮坐在寶座上掌權，寶座上也必坐著祭司，兩者和諧共存。』這冠冕要留在耶和華的殿中，作為對黑玳、多比雅、耶大雅和西番雅的兒子約西亞的紀念。」遠方的人也要來建造耶和華的殿。那時你們便知道是萬軍之耶和華差遣我到你們這裡來的。你們若全心遵從你們上帝耶和華的話，這事就必成就。
