they came near to Zerubbabel, and to the heads of fathers’ households, and said to them,“ Let us build with you; for we seek your God, as you do; and we have been sacrificing to him since the days of Esar Haddon king of Assyria, who brought us up here.”

就進前來見所羅巴伯和父系的族長，對他們說：『請讓我們和你們一同建造，因為我們尋問你們的上帝、和你們一樣；自從亞述王以撒哈頓帶我們上這地的日子以來、我們總是祭獻上帝的。』

則詣所羅巴伯與族長、謂之曰、請許我與爾同建、蓋我尋求爾之上帝、如爾曹然、自亞述王以撒哈頓攜我來時、以迄於今、與之獻祭、

則詣所羅把伯、與族中最著者、曰、我宗事爾之上帝、與爾無異、自亞述王以撒哈頓、使我至此迄今、祭司匪懈、故欲與爾同建斯殿。

they came to Zerubbabel and to the heads of the families and said,“ Let us help you build because, like you, we seek your God and have been sacrificing to him since the time of Esarhaddon king of Assyria, who brought us here.”

Then those enemies came to Zerubbabel. The family leaders of Israel were with him. The enemies said,“ We want to help you build. We’re just like you. We worship your God. We offer sacrifices to him. We’ve been doing that ever since the time of Esarhaddon. He was king of Assyria. He brought our people here.”

they approached Zerubbabel and the heads of fathers’ houses and said to them,“ Let us build with you, for we worship your God as you do, and we have been sacrificing to him ever since the days of Esarhaddon king of Assyria who brought us here.”

So they approached Zerubbabel and the other leaders and said,“ Let us build with you, for we worship your God just as you do. We have sacrificed to him ever since King Esarhaddon of Assyria brought us here.”

they approached Zerubbabel and the family heads and said to them,“ Let us build with you, for we also worship your God and have been sacrificing to him since the time King Esar-haddon of Assyria brought us here.”

Then they came to Zerubbabel, and to the chief of the fathers, and said unto them, Let us build with you: for we seek your God, as ye[ do]; and we do sacrifice unto him since the days of Esarhaddon king of Assur, which brought us up hither.

As he was worshiping in the house of Nisroch his god, Adrammelech and Sharezer struck him with the sword; and they escaped into the land of Ararat. Esar Haddon his son reigned in his place.

The king of Assyria brought men from Babylon, from Cuthah, from Avva, and from Hamath and Sepharvaim, and placed them in the cities of Samaria instead of the children of Israel; and they possessed Samaria, and lived in its cities.

So these nations feared Yahweh, and also served their engraved images. Their children did likewise, and so did their children’s children. They do as their fathers did to this day.

Then the king of Assyria commanded, saying,“ Carry there one of the priests whom you brought from there; and let them go and dwell there, and let him teach them the law of the god of the land.”So one of the priests whom they had carried away from Samaria came and lived in Bethel, and taught them how they should fear Yahweh.However every nation made gods of their own, and put them in the houses of the high places which the Samaritans had made, every nation in their cities in which they lived.The men of Babylon made Succoth Benoth, and the men of Cuth made Nergal, and the men of Hamath made Ashima,and the Avvites made Nibhaz and Tartak; and the Sepharvites burned their children in the fire to Adrammelech and Anammelech, the gods of Sepharvaim.So they feared Yahweh, and also made from among themselves priests of the high places for themselves, who sacrificed for them in the houses of the high places.They feared Yahweh, and also served their own gods, after the ways of the nations from among whom they had been carried away.

They scoff and speak with malice. In arrogance, they threaten oppression.

Out of that land he went into Assyria, and built Nineveh, Rehoboth Ir, Calah,

Then Jeshua the son of Jozadak stood up with his brothers the priests, and Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel and his brothers, and built the altar of the God of Israel, to offer burnt offerings on it, as it is written in the law of Moses the man of God.

But many of the priests and Levites and heads of fathers’ households, the old men who had seen the first house, when the foundation of this house was laid before their eyes, wept with a loud voice. Many also shouted aloud for joy,

Like silver dross on an earthen vessel are the lips of a fervent one with an evil heart.A malicious man disguises himself with his lips, but he harbors evil in his heart.When his speech is charming, don’t believe him, for there are seven abominations in his heart.His malice may be concealed by deception, but his wickedness will be exposed in the assembly.

Even as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so these also oppose the truth, men corrupted in mind, who concerning the faith are rejected.

Then the heads of fathers’ households of Judah and Benjamin, the priests, and the Levites, all whose spirit God had stirred to go up rose up to build Yahweh’s house which is in Jerusalem.

For such men are false apostles, deceitful workers, masquerading as Christ’s apostles.And no wonder, for even Satan masquerades as an angel of light.It is no great thing therefore if his servants also masquerade as servants of righteousness, whose end will be according to their works.

But false prophets also arose among the people, as false teachers will also be among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, denying even the Master who bought them, bringing on themselves swift destruction.Many will follow their immoral ways, and as a result, the way of the truth will be maligned.

who came with Zerubbabel, Jeshua, Nehemiah, Seraiah, Reelaiah, Mordecai, Bilshan, Mispar, Bigvai, Rehum, and Baanah. The number of the men of the people of Israel:

Assyria can’t save us. We won’t ride on horses; neither will we say any more to the work of our hands,‘ Our gods!’ for in you the fatherless finds mercy.”

This was because of the false brothers secretly brought in, who stole in to spy out our liberty which we have in Christ Jesus, that they might bring us into bondage,

So Sennacherib king of Assyria departed, went away, returned to Nineveh, and stayed there.
