What was of gold the captain of the guard took away as gold, and what was of silver, as silver.As for the two pillars, the one sea, the twelve bronze bulls that were under the sea, and the stands, which Solomon the king had made for the house of the Lord, the bronze of all these things was beyond weight.As for the pillars, the height of the one pillar was eighteen cubits, its circumference was twelve cubits, and its thickness was four fingers, and it was hollow.On it was a capital of bronze. The height of the one capital was five cubits. A network and pomegranates, all of bronze, were around the capital. And every day of his life he dined regularly at the king’s table,and for his allowance, a regular allowance was given him by the king, according to his daily needs, until the day of his death, as long as he lived.

And when Haman saw that Mordecai did not bow down or pay homage to him, Haman was filled with fury.But he disdained to lay hands on Mordecai alone. So, as they had made known to him the people of Mordecai, Haman sought to destroy all the Jews, the people of Mordecai, throughout the whole kingdom of Ahasuerus.In the first month, which is the month of Nisan, in the twelfth year of King Ahasuerus, they cast Pur( that is, they cast lots) before Haman day after day; and they cast it month after month till the twelfth month, which is the month of Adar.Then Haman said to King Ahasuerus,“ There is a certain people scattered abroad and dispersed among the peoples in all the provinces of your kingdom. Their laws are different from those of every other people, and they do not keep the king’s laws, so that it is not to the king’s profit to tolerate them.

And when they could not find them, they dragged Jason and some of the brothers before the city authorities, shouting,“ These men who have turned the world upside down have come here also,and Jason has received them, and they are all acting against the decrees of Caesar, saying that there is another king, Jesus.”

In it was written,“ It is reported among the nations, and Geshem also says it, that you and the Jews intend to rebel; that is why you are building the wall. And according to these reports you wish to become their king.

Then the high officials and the satraps sought to find a ground for complaint against Daniel with regard to the kingdom, but they could find no ground for complaint or any fault, because he was faithful, and no error or fault was found in him.Then these men said,“ We shall not find any ground for complaint against this Daniel unless we find it in connection with the law of his God.”Then these high officials and satraps came by agreement to the king and said to him,“ O King Darius, live forever!All the high officials of the kingdom, the prefects and the satraps, the counselors and the governors are agreed that the king should establish an ordinance and enforce an injunction, that whoever makes petition to any god or man for thirty days, except to you, O king, shall be cast into the den of lions.Now, O king, establish the injunction and sign the document, so that it cannot be changed, according to the law of the Medes and the Persians, which cannot be revoked.”Therefore King Darius signed the document and injunction.When Daniel knew that the document had been signed, he went to his house where he had windows in his upper chamber open toward Jerusalem. He got down on his knees three times a day and prayed and gave thanks before his God, as he had done previously.Then these men came by agreement and found Daniel making petition and plea before his God.Then they came near and said before the king, concerning the injunction,“ O king! Did you not sign an injunction, that anyone who makes petition to any god or man within thirty days except to you, O king, shall be cast into the den of lions?” The king answered and said,“ The thing stands fast, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which cannot be revoked.”Then they answered and said before the king,“ Daniel, who is one of the exiles from Judah, pays no attention to you, O king, or the injunction you have signed, but makes his petition three times a day.”
