In the second year of Darius the king, in the sixth month, in the first day of the month, Yahweh’s word came by Haggai, the prophet, to Zerubbabel, the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua, the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, saying,

for both prophet and priest are profane. Yes, in my house I have found their wickedness,” says Yahweh.

“‘ He shall take a wife in her virginity.He shall not marry a widow, or one divorced, or a woman who has been defiled, or a prostitute. He shall take a virgin of his own people as a wife.He shall not profane his offspring among his people, for I am Yahweh who sanctifies him.’”

One of the sons of Joiada, the son of Eliashib the high priest, was son- in- law to Sanballat the Horonite; therefore I chased him from me.

“‘ They shall not marry a woman who is a prostitute, or profane. A priest shall not marry a woman divorced from her husband; for he is holy to his God.
