In the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, in order to fulfill the word of the Lord spoken by Jeremiah, the Lord moved the heart of Cyrus king of Persia to make a proclamation throughout his realm and also to put it in writing:

It was the first year of the rule of Cyrus. He was king of Persia. The Lord inspired him to send a message all through his kingdom. It happened so that what the Lord had spoken through Jeremiah would come true. The message was written down. It said,

In the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, that the word of the Lord by the mouth of Jeremiah might be fulfilled, the Lord stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia, so that he made a proclamation throughout all his kingdom and also put it in writing:

In the first year of King Cyrus of Persia, the Lord fulfilled the prophecy he had given through Jeremiah. He stirred the heart of Cyrus to put this proclamation in writing and to send it throughout his kingdom:

In the first year of King Cyrus of Persia, in order to fulfill the word of the LORD spoken through Jeremiah, the LORD roused the spirit of King Cyrus to issue a proclamation throughout his entire kingdom and to put it in writing:

In the first year of King Cyrus of Persia, in order to fulfill the LORD’S message spoken through Jeremiah, the LORD stirred the mind of King Cyrus of Persia. He disseminated a proclamation throughout his entire kingdom, announcing in a written edict the following:

Now in the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, that Yahweh’s word by Jeremiah’s mouth might be accomplished, Yahweh stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia, so that he made a proclamation throughout all his kingdom, and put it also in writing, saying,

“耶和華這樣說：‘為巴比倫所定的七十年滿了以後，我必眷顧你們，向你們實行我滿有恩惠的諾言，把你們帶回這地方來。

他又使他們在所有擄掠他們的人面前，得蒙憐恤。

君王的心在耶和華手中，好像水溝的水，他可以隨意轉移。

“七十年滿了以後，我要按著他們的罪孽懲罰巴比倫王和那國，就是迦勒底人之地，使它永遠荒涼。”這是耶和華的宣告。“我必使我所說攻擊那地的一切話應驗在那地；我所說的，就是一切記錄在這書上的，是耶利米攻擊列國所說的預言。因為許多國家和大君王將要奴役迦勒底人，我必按著他們的作為和他們手所作的報應他們。”

然而在巴比倫王古列元年，古列王下令重建這神的殿。至於從前尼布甲尼撒從耶路撒冷的殿裡掠奪，帶到巴比倫廟裡的神殿中的金銀器皿，古列王也從巴比倫的廟中拿出來，把它們交給一位名叫設巴薩的人，委任他為總督。又吩咐他說：把這些器皿帶去，存放在耶路撒冷的殿中；使神的殿在原來的地方重建起來。

他們歡歡喜喜地守除酵節七天，因為耶和華使他們歡喜，又使亞述王的心轉向他們，堅固他們的手作以色列神殿的工程。

我必使猶大被擄的和以色列被擄的都歸回，並且建立他們像起初一樣。我必潔淨他們得罪我的一切罪孽，並且赦免他們得罪我和悖逆我的一切罪孽。這城必在地上萬國面前使我得名聲，得喜樂（按照《馬索拉文本》，“得名聲，得喜樂”應作“得喜樂的名聲”；現參照《七十士譯本》翻譯），得頌讚，得榮耀，因為萬國必聽見我向這城的人所施的一切福樂。他們因我向這城所施的一切福樂和平安，就都恐懼戰兢。’“耶和華這樣說：‘論到這地方，你們說：“這地荒廢，沒有人煙，也沒有牲畜。”但在這荒涼、沒有人煙、沒有居民、也沒有牲畜的猶大各城和耶路撒冷的街上，必再聽見歡喜和快樂的聲音，新郎和新婦的聲音；還要聽見那些帶著感恩祭到耶和華殿的人的聲音說：“你們要稱謝萬軍之耶和華，因為耶和華是至善的，他的慈愛永遠長存。”因為我必使這地被擄的歸回，像起初一樣。’”這是耶和華說的。“萬軍之耶和華這樣說：‘在這荒廢、沒有人煙、沒有牲畜的地方，和這地所有城中，必再有牧人放羊的牧場。在山地、高地和南地的各城，在便雅憫地，在耶路撒冷周圍的各處，以及在猶大的各城裡，必再有牧人數點經過手下的羊群。’”這是耶和華說的。

以斯拉說：“耶和華我們列祖的神是應該稱頌的，因為他把這樣的意念放在君王的心裡，使他修飾那在耶路撒冷的耶和華的殿；

尼布甲尼撒在位第二年，他作了夢，因此心裡煩亂，不能入睡。

那時，施洗的約翰出來，在猶太的曠野傳道，說：“天國近了，你們應當悔改。”以賽亞先知所說：“在曠野有呼喊者的聲音：‘預備主的道，修直他的路！’”就是指著這約翰說的。

他說：“我就是在曠野呼喊者的聲音：‘修直主的路！’正如以賽亞先知所說的。”
