In the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, in order to fulfill the word of the Lord spoken by Jeremiah, the Lord moved the heart of Cyrus king of Persia to make a proclamation throughout his realm and also to put it in writing:

It was the first year of the rule of Cyrus. He was king of Persia. The Lord inspired him to send a message all through his kingdom. It happened so that what the Lord had spoken through Jeremiah would come true. The message was written down. It said,

In the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, that the word of the Lord by the mouth of Jeremiah might be fulfilled, the Lord stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia, so that he made a proclamation throughout all his kingdom and also put it in writing:

In the first year of King Cyrus of Persia, the Lord fulfilled the prophecy he had given through Jeremiah. He stirred the heart of Cyrus to put this proclamation in writing and to send it throughout his kingdom:

In the first year of King Cyrus of Persia, in order to fulfill the LORD’S message spoken through Jeremiah, the LORD stirred the mind of King Cyrus of Persia. He disseminated a proclamation throughout his entire kingdom, announcing in a written edict the following:

Now in the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, that Yahweh’s word by Jeremiah’s mouth might be accomplished, Yahweh stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia, so that he made a proclamation throughout all his kingdom, and put it also in writing, saying,

波斯王塞鲁士元年，耶和华为了应验祂借耶利米所说的话，就感动波斯王塞鲁士，使他下诏通告全国：“波斯王塞鲁士如此说，‘天上的上帝耶和华已把天下万国都赐给我，祂吩咐我在犹大的耶路撒冷为祂建造殿宇。你们当中凡属耶和华的子民，都可以去那里。愿你们的上帝耶和华与你们同在！’”

耶和华说：“你们被掳到巴比伦七十年期满后，我就要眷顾你们，成就我充满恩典的应许，把你们带回这地方。

祂使掳掠他们的人怜悯他们。

耶和华掌管君王的心，易如支配垄沟的流水。

七十年后，我要报应巴比伦王和他国民迦勒底人的罪，使他们的土地永远荒凉。这是耶和华说的。我借耶利米所说有关列国的预言都记在这书上了，我的话必应验在他们的土地上。他们必受许多国家和强大君王的奴役，我要按他们的所作所为报应他们。”

然而，巴比伦王塞鲁士在其统治元年，降旨重建这座上帝的殿。尼布甲尼撒王曾掳去耶路撒冷上帝殿里的金银器皿，放在巴比伦神庙里，塞鲁士王从巴比伦神庙取出这些器皿，交给他委派做省长的设巴萨，吩咐他把这些器皿带去，重新陈设在耶路撒冷的殿里，在旧址上重建上帝的殿。

他们欢欢喜喜地守除酵节七天，因为耶和华使亚述王对他们心存善意，帮助他们重建以色列上帝的殿。

我要使被掳的犹大人和以色列人回到故土，重建家园。我要除去他们的一切罪恶，赦免他们的一切罪过。这城要使我在天下万国面前得到尊崇、颂赞和荣耀。万民听见我使这城繁荣昌盛，都恐惧战栗。’”耶和华说：“你们说犹大的城邑和耶路撒冷的街道一片荒凉、人畜绝迹，但这些地方必传出欢乐声、新郎新娘的欢笑声和在耶和华殿中献感恩祭者的歌唱声，“‘要感谢万军之耶和华，因为耶和华是美善的，祂的慈爱永远长存’。因为我必使被掳的人回到故土，重建家园。这是耶和华说的。”万军之耶和华说：“在这一片荒凉、人畜绝迹的地方，在它所有城邑的周围必再有供牧人放羊的草场。在山区、丘陵和南地的城邑，以及便雅悯、耶路撒冷周围和犹大的城邑必有人清点羊群。这是耶和华说的。”

以斯拉说：“我们祖先的上帝耶和华当受赞美！因为祂使王有这样的心意尊崇耶路撒冷耶和华的殿。

尼布甲尼撒在执政第二年做了梦，心里烦乱，无法入睡，

那时，施洗者约翰来到犹太的旷野传道，说：“悔改吧，因为天国临近了！”约翰就是以赛亚先知所说的那位，他说：“有人在旷野大声呼喊，‘预备主的道，修直祂的路。’”

他说：“我就是在旷野大声呼喊‘修直主的路’的那个人，正如以赛亚先知所言。”
