So I went in and looked. All over the walls were pictures of all kinds of crawling things and“ unclean” animals. The Lord hates it when people worship those things. There were also carvings of the gods of the people of Israel.

予入而觀之、有不潔之獸、昆蟲之狀、及以色列族所拜諸偶像、繪於壁四周、

So I went in and looked, and I saw portrayed all over the walls all kinds of crawling things and unclean animals and all the idols of Israel.

“ Do not make for yourself statues of gods that look like anything in the sky. They may not look like anything on the earth or in the waters either.

They would rather have statues of gods than the glorious God who lives forever. Their statues of gods are made to look like people, birds, animals and reptiles.

I will pay them back double for their sin and the evil things they have done. They have made my land‘ unclean.’ They have set up lifeless statues of their evil gods. They have filled my land with them. I hate those gods.”

Don’t eat anything the Lord hates.

“‘ Many animals move along the ground. Here are the ones that are“ unclean” for you. They include weasels, rats and all kinds of large lizards.They also include geckos, monitor lizards, wall lizards, skinks and chameleons.These are the animals that move around on the ground that are“ unclean” for you. If you touch their dead bodies, you will be“ unclean” until evening.

Some animals only chew the cud. Others only have a divided hoof. The camel, rabbit and rock badger chew the cud, but they don’t have a divided hoof. So you can’t eat them. They are not“ clean” for you.Pigs aren’t“ clean” for you either. They have a divided hoof, but they don’t chew the cud. So don’t eat their meat. And don’t touch their dead bodies.

Don’t make a statue that looks like any creature that moves along the ground or any fish that swims in the water.

“ A thief is dishonored when he is caught. And you people of Israel are filled with shame. Your kings and officials are dishonored. So are your priests and your prophets.You say to a piece of wood,‘ You are my father.’ You say to a stone,‘ You are my mother.’ You have turned your backs to me. You refuse to look at me. But when you are in trouble, you say,‘ Come and save us!’

Do not eat any of these creatures. It does not matter whether they move on their bellies. It does not matter whether they walk on all fours or on many feet. It is“ unclean.”Do not make yourselves“ unclean” by eating any of these animals. Do not make yourselves“ unclean” because of them. Do not let them make you“ unclean.”I am the Lord your God. Set yourselves apart. Be holy, because I am holy. Do not make yourselves“ unclean” by eating any creatures that move around on the ground.

Treat as“ unclean” all the creatures in the oceans or streams that do not have fins and scales. That includes all those that move together in groups and all those that do not.Treat them as“ unclean.” Do not eat their meat. Treat their dead bodies as“ unclean.”Regard as“ unclean” everything that lives in the water that does not have fins and scales.

You have chosen some of the smooth stones in the valleys to be your gods. You have joined yourselves to them. You have even poured out drink offerings to them. You have given grain offerings to them. So why should I take pity on you?You have made your bed on a very high hill. You went up there to offer your sacrifices.You have set up statues to remind you of your gods. You have put them behind your doors and doorposts. You deserted me. You invited other lovers into your bed. You climbed into it and welcomed them. You made a deal with them. And you looked with desire at their naked bodies.You took olive oil to the god named Molek. You took a lot of perfume along with you. You sent your messengers to places far away. You even sent them down to the place of the dead.You wore yourself out with all your efforts. But you would not say,‘ It’s hopeless.’ You received new strength. So you did not give up.

Israel was not faithful to me, but that did not bother them at all. They made the land‘ unclean.’ They worshiped gods that were made out of stone and wood.
