Calamity upon calamity will come, and rumor upon rumor. They will go searching for a vision from the prophet, priestly instruction in the law will cease, the counsel of the elders will come to an end.

毀壞的信息不斷傳來，因為全地荒廢。我的帳棚忽然毀壞，我的幔子頃刻破裂。

你們因此必遭遇黑夜，看不到異象；遭遇幽暗，無法占卜。太陽必向先知沉落，白晝轉為黑暗。

我們看不見自己的標幟，不再有先知，我們當中也無人知道這災禍要到幾時。

有幾個以色列的長老到我這裏來，坐在我面前。

西底家王差人提他出來，在自己的宮內私下問他說：「有甚麼話從耶和華臨到沒有？」耶利米說：「有！」又說：「你必被交在巴比倫王手中。」

他們說：「來吧！讓我們設計謀害耶利米；因為我們有祭司講律法，有智慧人設謀略，有先知說預言，都未曾斷絕。來吧！讓我們用舌頭攻擊他，不要理他一切的話。」

第七年五月初十，有以色列的幾個長老前來求問耶和華，坐在我面前。耶和華的話臨到我，說：「人子啊，你要告訴以色列的長老，對他們說，主耶和華如此說：你們來是為求問我嗎？主耶和華說：我指着我的永生起誓，我必不讓你們求問。

「請你為我們求問耶和華，因為巴比倫王尼布甲尼撒前來攻擊我們；或者耶和華照他一切奇妙的作為待我們，使巴比倫王離開我們而去。」

但災禍臨到你，你不知如何驅除；災害落在你身上，你也無法除掉，你所不知道的毀滅必忽然臨到你身上。

如果這樣，你們還不聽從我，我就要因你們的罪，加重七倍懲罰你們。

他們如同百姓前來，來到你這裏，坐在你面前彷彿是我的子民。他們聽了你的話，卻不實行；因為他們口裏說愛，心卻追隨財利。

「『我要把禍患堆在他們身上，我用盡我的箭射向他們：

「看哪，日子將到，我必命饑荒降在地上；人飢餓非因無餅，乾渴非因無水，而是因不聽耶和華的話。」這是主耶和華說的。他們必飄流，從這海到那海，從北邊到東邊，往來奔跑，尋求耶和華的話，卻尋不着。

第六年六月初五，我坐在家中；猶大的眾長老坐在我面前。在那裏主耶和華的手降在我身上。

西底家王差人將耶利米先知帶進耶和華殿的第三個門，到王那裏去。王對耶利米說：「我要問你一件事，你一點都不可向我隱瞞。」耶利米對西底家說：「我若告訴你，你豈不是一定要把我處死嗎？我若勸你，你必不聽我。」西底家王就私下對耶利米說：「我指着那造我們生命之永生的耶和華起誓：我必不把你處死，也不將你交在尋索你命的人手中。」耶利米對西底家說：「耶和華－萬軍之上帝、以色列的上帝如此說：你若歸順巴比倫王的官長，你的命就必存活，這城也不致被火焚燒，你和你的全家都必存活。你若不歸順巴比倫王的官長，這城必交在迦勒底人手中。他們必用火焚燒，你也不得脫離他們的手。」西底家王對耶利米說：「我怕那些投降迦勒底人的猶大人，恐怕迦勒底人把我交在他們手中，他們就戲弄我。」耶利米說：「迦勒底人必不把你交出。求你聽從我對你所說耶和華的話，這樣對你有好處，你的命也必存活。你若不肯歸順，耶和華指示我的話是這樣：看哪，猶大王宮裏所留下來的婦女必被帶到巴比倫王的官長那裏。這些婦女要說：你知己的朋友引誘你，他們勝過你；你的腳陷入淤泥，他們卻離棄你。「人必將你的后妃和你的兒女帶到迦勒底人那裏；你也不得脫離他們的手，必被巴比倫王的手捉住，這城也必被火焚燒。」西底家對耶利米說：「不要讓人知道這些對話，你就不至於死。官長們若聽見我跟你說話，到你那裏對你說：『告訴我們，你對王說了甚麼話，王又向你說了甚麼；不可向我們隱瞞，否則我們就要殺你。』你就對他們說：『我在王面前懇求不要把我送回約拿單的房屋，免得我死在那裏。』」隨後官長們到耶利米那裏，問他，他就照王所吩咐的一切話回答他們。他們就不再問他，因為事情沒有洩漏。於是耶利米仍在護衛兵的院中，直到耶路撒冷被攻下的日子。當耶路撒冷被攻下時，他仍在那裏。

「你們行事若與我作對，不肯聽從我，我就要因你們的罪，加重七倍災禍擊打你們。

錫安的門陷入地裏，主毀壞，折斷她的門閂。她的君王和官長都置身列國中，沒有律法；她的先知也不再從耶和華領受異象。
