Calamity upon calamity will come, and rumor upon rumor. They will go searching for a vision from the prophet, priestly instruction in the law will cease, the counsel of the elders will come to an end.

毁坏的信息不断传来，因为全地荒废。我的帐棚忽然毁坏，我的幔子顷刻破裂。

你们因此必遭遇黑夜，看不到异象；遭遇幽暗，无法占卜。太阳必向先知沉落，白昼转为黑暗。

我们看不见自己的标帜，不再有先知，我们当中也无人知道这灾祸要到几时。

有几个以色列的长老到我这里来，坐在我面前。

西底家王差人提他出来，在自己的宫内私下问他说：“有什么话从耶和华临到没有？”耶利米说：“有！”又说：“你必被交在巴比伦王手中。”

他们说：“来吧！让我们设计谋害耶利米；因为我们有祭司讲律法，有智慧人设谋略，有先知说预言，都未曾断绝。来吧！让我们用舌头攻击他，不要理他一切的话。”

第七年五月初十，有以色列的几个长老前来求问耶和华，坐在我面前。耶和华的话临到我，说：“人子啊，你要告诉以色列的长老，对他们说，主耶和华如此说：你们来是为求问我吗？主耶和华说：我指着我的永生起誓，我必不让你们求问。

“请你为我们求问耶和华，因为巴比伦王尼布甲尼撒前来攻击我们；或者耶和华照他一切奇妙的作为待我们，使巴比伦王离开我们而去。”

但灾祸临到你，你不知如何驱除；灾害落在你身上，你也无法除掉，你所不知道的毁灭必忽然临到你身上。

如果这样，你们还不听从我，我就要因你们的罪，加重七倍惩罚你们。

他们如同百姓前来，来到你这里，坐在你面前仿佛是我的子民。他们听了你的话，却不实行；因为他们口里说爱，心却追随财利。

“‘我要把祸患堆在他们身上，我用尽我的箭射向他们：

“看哪，日子将到，我必命饥荒降在地上；人饥饿非因无饼，干渴非因无水，而是因不听耶和华的话。”这是主耶和华说的。他们必飘流，从这海到那海，从北边到东边，往来奔跑，寻求耶和华的话，却寻不着。

第六年六月初五，我坐在家中；犹大的众长老坐在我面前。在那里主耶和华的手降在我身上。

西底家王差人将耶利米先知带进耶和华殿的第三个门，到王那里去。王对耶利米说：“我要问你一件事，你一点都不可向我隐瞒。”耶利米对西底家说：“我若告诉你，你岂不是一定要把我处死吗？我若劝你，你必不听我。”西底家王就私下对耶利米说：“我指着那造我们生命之永生的耶和华起誓：我必不把你处死，也不将你交在寻索你命的人手中。”耶利米对西底家说：“耶和华—万军之神、以色列的神如此说：你若归顺巴比伦王的官长，你的命就必存活，这城也不致被火焚烧，你和你的全家都必存活。你若不归顺巴比伦王的官长，这城必交在迦勒底人手中。他们必用火焚烧，你也不得脱离他们的手。”西底家王对耶利米说：“我怕那些投降迦勒底人的犹大人，恐怕迦勒底人把我交在他们手中，他们就戏弄我。”耶利米说：“迦勒底人必不把你交出。求你听从我对你所说耶和华的话，这样对你有好处，你的命也必存活。你若不肯归顺，耶和华指示我的话是这样：看哪，犹大王宫里所留下来的妇女必被带到巴比伦王的官长那里。这些妇女要说：你知己的朋友引诱你，他们胜过你；你的脚陷入淤泥，他们却离弃你。“人必将你的后妃和你的儿女带到迦勒底人那里；你也不得脱离他们的手，必被巴比伦王的手捉住，这城也必被火焚烧。”西底家对耶利米说：“不要让人知道这些对话，你就不至于死。官长们若听见我跟你说话，到你那里对你说：‘告诉我们，你对王说了什么话，王又向你说了什么；不可向我们隐瞒，否则我们就要杀你。’你就对他们说：‘我在王面前恳求不要把我送回约拿单的房屋，免得我死在那里。’”随后官长们到耶利米那里，问他，他就照王所吩咐的一切话回答他们。他们就不再问他，因为事情没有泄漏。于是耶利米仍在护卫兵的院中，直到耶路撒冷被攻下的日子。当耶路撒冷被攻下时，他仍在那里。

“你们行事若与我作对，不肯听从我，我就要因你们的罪，加重七倍灾祸击打你们。

锡安的门陷入地里，主毁坏，折断她的门闩。她的君王和官长都置身列国中，没有律法；她的先知也不再从耶和华领受异象。
