Calamity upon calamity will come, and rumor upon rumor. They will go searching for a vision from the prophet, priestly instruction in the law will cease, the counsel of the elders will come to an end.

毁坏的信息连络不绝，因为全地荒废。我的帐棚忽然毁坏；我的幔子顷刻破裂。

“你们必遭遇黑夜，以致不见异象；又必遭遇幽暗，以致不能占卜。日头必向你们沉落，白昼变为黑暗。

我们不见我们的标帜，不再有先知；我们内中也没有人知道这灾祸要到几时呢！

有几个以色列长老到我这里来，坐在我面前。

西底家王打发人提出他来，在自己的宫内私下问他说：“从耶和华有什么话临到没有？”耶利米说：“有！”又说：“你必交在巴比伦王手中。”

他们就说：“来吧！我们可以设计谋害耶利米；因为我们有祭司讲律法，智慧人设谋略，先知说预言，都不能断绝。来吧！我们可以用舌头击打他，不要理会他的一切话。”

第七年五月初十日，有以色列的几个长老来求问耶和华，坐在我面前。耶和华的话临到我说：“人子啊，你要告诉以色列的长老说，主耶和华如此说：你们来是求问我吗？主耶和华说：我指着我的永生起誓，我必不被你们求问。

“请你为我们求问耶和华；因为巴比伦王尼布甲尼撒来攻击我们，或者耶和华照他一切奇妙的作为待我们，使巴比伦王离开我们上去。”

因此，祸患要临到你身；你不知何时发现灾害落在你身上，你也不能除掉；所不知道的毁灭也必忽然临到你身。

你们因这些事若还不听从我，我就要为你们的罪加七倍惩罚你们。

他们来到你这里如同民来聚会，坐在你面前仿佛是我的民。他们听你的话却不去行；因为他们的口多显爱情，心却追随财利。

我要将祸患堆在他们身上，把我的箭向他们射尽。

主耶和华说：“日子将到，我必命饥荒降在地上。人饥饿非因无饼，干渴非因无水，乃因不听耶和华的话。他们必飘流，从这海到那海，从北边到东边，往来奔跑，寻求耶和华的话，却寻不着。

第六年六月初五日，我坐在家中；犹大的众长老坐在我面前。在那里主耶和华的灵降在我身上。

西底家王打发人带领先知耶利米，进耶和华殿中第三门里见王。王就对耶利米说：“我要问你一件事，你丝毫不可向我隐瞒。”耶利米对西底家说：“我若告诉你，你岂不定要杀我吗？我若劝戒你，你必不听从我。”西底家王就私下向耶利米说：“我指着那造我们生命之永生的耶和华起誓：我必不杀你，也不将你交在寻索你命的人手中。”耶利米对西底家说：“耶和华万军之神、以色列的神如此说：你若出去归降巴比伦王的首领，你的命就必存活，这城也不致被火焚烧，你和你的全家都必存活。你若不出去归降巴比伦王的首领，这城必交在迦勒底人手中。他们必用火焚烧，你也不得脱离他们的手。”西底家王对耶利米说：“我怕那些投降迦勒底人的犹大人，恐怕迦勒底人将我交在他们手中，他们戏弄我。”耶利米说：“迦勒底人必不将你交出。求你听从我对你所说耶和华的话，这样你必得好处，你的命也必存活。你若不肯出去，耶和华指示我的话乃是这样：‘犹大王宫里所剩的妇女必都带到巴比伦王的首领那里。这些妇女必说：你知己的朋友催逼你，胜过你；见你的脚陷入淤泥中，就转身退后了。人必将你的后妃和你的儿女带到迦勒底人那里；你也不得脱离他们的手，必被巴比伦王的手捉住；你也必使这城被火焚烧。’”西底家对耶利米说：“不要使人知道这些话，你就不至于死。首领若听见了我与你说话，就来见你，问你说：‘你对王说什么话不要向我们隐瞒，我们就不杀你。王向你说什么话也要告诉我们。’你就对他们说：‘我在王面前恳求不要叫我回到约拿单的房屋死在那里。’”随后众首领来见耶利米，问他，他就照王所吩咐的一切话回答他们。他们不再与他说话，因为事情没有泄漏。于是耶利米仍在护卫兵的院中，直到耶路撒冷被攻取的日子。

“你们行事若与我反对，不肯听从我，我就要按你们的罪加七倍降灾与你们。

锡安的门都陷入地内；主将她的门闩毁坏，折断。她的君王和首领落在没有律法的列国中；她的先知不得见耶和华的异象。

我就要行事与你们反对，因你们的罪击打你们七次。

我就要发烈怒，行事与你们反对，又因你们的罪惩罚你们七次。
