They cast their silver into the streets, and their gold is like an unclean thing. Their silver and gold are not able to deliver them in the day of the wrath of the Lord. They cannot satisfy their hunger or fill their stomachs with it. For it was the stumbling block of their iniquity.

我怒之日、彼棄金銀於逵衢、欲救其命、欲果其腹、欲安其心、亦屬無益、昔作惡以得之、今使之顛躓。

彼將擲銀於衢、視金如污穢物、主怒之日、其金銀不能救之、不能用以充饑果腹、因金銀使其陷於罪、

“‘ They will throw their silver into the streets, and their gold will be treated as a thing unclean. Their silver and gold will not be able to deliver them in the day of the Lord’s wrath. It will not satisfy their hunger or fill their stomachs, for it has caused them to stumble into sin.

“‘ They will throw their silver into the streets. They will treat their gold like an“ unclean” thing. Their silver and gold won’t be able to save them on the day I pour out my anger. It will not be able to satisfy their hunger. Their stomachs can’t be filled with it. Their silver and gold have tripped them up. It has made them fall into sin.

“ They will throw their money in the streets, tossing it out like worthless trash. Their silver and gold won’t save them on that day of the Lord’s anger. It will neither satisfy nor feed them, for their greed can only trip them up.

They will throw their silver into the streets, and their gold will seem like something filthy. Their silver and gold will be unable to save them in the day of the LORD’s wrath. They will not satisfy their appetites or fill their stomachs, for these were the stumbling blocks that brought about their iniquity.

They will fling their silver into the streets, and their gold will become an abhorrent thing; their silver and their gold will not be able to save them on the day of the wrath of the Lord. They cannot satisfy their appetite, nor can they fill their stomachs, because their wrongdoing has become a cause of stumbling.

‘ They will throw their silver into the streets, And their gold will be like refuse; Their silver and their gold will not be able to deliver them In the day of the wrath of the Lord; They will not satisfy their souls, Nor fill their stomachs, Because it became their stumbling block of iniquity.

Neither their silver nor their gold shall be able to deliver them on the day of the wrath of the Lord. In the fire of his jealousy, all the earth shall be consumed; for a full and sudden end he will make of all the inhabitants of the earth.

Riches do not profit in the day of wrath, but righteousness delivers from death.

“ Son of man, these men have taken their idols into their hearts, and set the stumbling block of their iniquity before their faces. Should I indeed let myself be consulted by them?Therefore speak to them and say to them, Thus says the Lord God: Any one of the house of Israel who takes his idols into his heart and sets the stumbling block of his iniquity before his face, and yet comes to the prophet, I the Lord will answer him as he comes with the multitude of his idols,

For any one of the house of Israel, or of the strangers who sojourn in Israel, who separates himself from me, taking his idols into his heart and putting the stumbling block of his iniquity before his face, and yet comes to a prophet to consult me through him, I the Lord will answer him myself.

Because they ministered to them before their idols and became a stumbling block of iniquity to the house of Israel, therefore I have sworn concerning them, declares the Lord God, and they shall bear their punishment.

“ Though evil is sweet in his mouth, though he hides it under his tongue,though he is loath to let it go and holds it in his mouth,yet his food is turned in his stomach; it is the venom of cobras within him.He swallows down riches and vomits them up again; God casts them out of his belly.He will suck the poison of cobras; the tongue of a viper will kill him.He will not look upon the rivers, the streams flowing with honey and curds.He will give back the fruit of his toil and will not swallow it down; from the profit of his trading he will get no enjoyment.For he has crushed and abandoned the poor; he has seized a house that he did not build.“ Because he knew no contentment in his belly, he will not let anything in which he delights escape him.There was nothing left after he had eaten; therefore his prosperity will not endure.In the fullness of his sufficiency he will be in distress; the hand of everyone in misery will come against him.To fill his belly to the full, God will send his burning anger against him and rain it upon him into his body.

And I will say to my soul,“ Soul, you have ample goods laid up for many years; relax, eat, drink, be merry.”’But God said to him,‘ Fool! This night your soul is required of you, and the things you have prepared, whose will they be?’

Then you will defile your carved idols overlaid with silver and your gold-plated metal images. You will scatter them as unclean things. You will say to them,“ Be gone!”

Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread, and your labor for that which does not satisfy? Listen diligently to me, and eat what is good, and delight yourselves in rich food.

In that day mankind will cast away their idols of silver and their idols of gold, which they made for themselves to worship, to the moles and to the bats,

For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a man give in return for his soul?

He who loves money will not be satisfied with money, nor he who loves wealth with his income; this also is vanity.

But before they had satisfied their craving, while the food was still in their mouths,the anger of God rose against them, and he killed the strongest of them and laid low the young men of Israel.

And David says,“ Let their table become a snare and a trap, a stumbling block and a retribution for them;

So they fled away in the twilight and abandoned their tents, their horses, and their donkeys, leaving the camp as it was, and fled for their lives.And when these lepers came to the edge of the camp, they went into a tent and ate and drank, and they carried off silver and gold and clothing and went and hid them. Then they came back and entered another tent and carried off things from it and went and hid them.

So they went after them as far as the Jordan, and behold, all the way was littered with garments and equipment that the Syrians had thrown away in their haste. And the messengers returned and told the king.
