磨得鋒利，為要殺戮，擦得亮如閃電。我們豈能因我兒的權杖而快樂？這刀鄙視一切權杖。

愚人的狂言招來鞭打，智者的唇舌保護自己。

以法蓮酒徒引以為榮的華冠有禍了！它座落在醉酒者肥美的山谷頂上，它的榮美如將殘之花。

但上帝賜給我們更大的恩典，所以聖經上說：「上帝阻擋驕傲的人，恩待謙卑的人。」

我就會因他們的罪用杖懲罰他們，用鞭子責打他們。

驕橫是淪亡的前奏，狂傲是敗落的預兆。

當人們正在說一切平安穩妥的時候，災禍會像產痛臨到孕婦一樣突然臨到他們，令他們無法逃脫。
