Again, take a few of these and throw them into the fire and burn them up. A fire will spread from there to all Israel.

Next, get a few more hairs. Throw them into the fire. Burn them up. The fire will spread to all the people of Israel.”

And of these again you shall take some and cast them into the midst of the fire and burn them in the fire. From there a fire will come out into all the house of Israel.

Then take some of these hairs out and throw them into the fire, burning them up. A fire will then spread from this remnant and destroy all of Israel.

Take some more of them, throw them into the fire, and burn them in it. A fire will spread from it to the whole house of Israel.

Take again some of them and throw them into the fire and burn them in the fire; from it a fire will spread to all the house of Israel.

Then take some of them again and throw them into the midst of the fire, and burn them in the fire. From there a fire will go out into all the house of Israel.

And of these again shalt thou take, and cast them into the midst of the fire, and burn them in the fire; therefrom shall a fire come forth into all the house of Israel.

Take some more of them, throw them into the fire, and burn them in it. A fire will spread from it to the whole house of Israel.

七月中，王室后裔以利沙玛的孙子，尼探雅的儿子以实玛利带着十个人来，击杀了基大利和同他在米斯巴的犹大人与迦勒底人，把他们杀死。

逃难的人站在希实本的荫下，筋疲力尽，因为有火从希实本发出，有火焰出自西宏，烧尽摩押的鬓角和闹哄人的头顶。

犹大人和耶路撒冷的居民哪，你们当自行割礼，归耶和华，将你们心里的污秽除掉；免得我的愤怒因你们的恶行发作，如火燃起，甚至无人能熄灭！”

尼布甲尼撒二十三年，尼布撒拉旦护卫长掳去犹大人七百四十五人；共有四千六百人。

七月中，王的大臣，就是王室后裔以利沙玛的孙子、尼探雅的儿子以实玛利带着十个人，来到米斯巴，亚希甘的儿子基大利那里；他们在米斯巴一同吃饭。尼探雅的儿子以实玛利和同他来的那十个人起来，用刀击杀沙番的孙子，亚希甘的儿子基大利，就是巴比伦王所立为当地省长的，把他杀死。以实玛利把所有在米斯巴与基大利一起的犹大人，以及他们在那里所遇见的迦勒底人和士兵都杀了。他杀了基大利的第二天，还没有人知道的时候，有八十人从示剑、示罗和撒玛利亚前来，胡须剃去，衣服撕裂，身体划破，手拿素祭和乳香，要奉到耶和华的殿。尼探雅的儿子以实玛利从米斯巴出来迎接他们，随走随哭，遇见了他们，就对他们说：“你们可以到亚希甘的儿子基大利那里。”他们到了城中，尼探雅的儿子以实玛利和与他一起的人就把他们杀了，丢在坑里。只是他们中间有十个人对以实玛利说：“不要杀我们，因为我们有许多大麦、小麦、油和蜜藏在田间。”于是他住手，没有在弟兄中间杀他们。以实玛利把那些因基大利事件所杀之人的尸首都丢在坑里；这坑是从前亚撒王因怕以色列王巴沙所挖的。尼探雅的儿子以实玛利把那些被杀的人填满了坑。以实玛利把米斯巴剩下的人，就是众公主和仍住在米斯巴所有的百姓都掳去，他们原是尼布撒拉旦护卫长交给亚希甘的儿子基大利的。尼探雅的儿子以实玛利掳了他们，要到亚扪人那里去。加利亚的儿子约哈难和与他一起的军官，听见尼探雅的儿子以实玛利所做的一切恶事，就带领众人前往，要和尼探雅的儿子以实玛利争战，他们在基遍的大水池旁遇见他。在以实玛利那里的众人看见加利亚的儿子约哈难和与他一起的军官，就都欢喜。这样，以实玛利从米斯巴所掳去的众人都转身归向加利亚的儿子约哈难。尼探雅的儿子以实玛利和八个人脱离约哈难的手，逃到亚扪人那里去。尼探雅的儿子以实玛利杀了亚希甘的儿子基大利，从米斯巴把所有幸存的百姓、士兵、妇女、孩童、太监掳到基遍之后，加利亚的儿子约哈难和与他一起的军官把他们都抢回来，带到靠近伯利恒的基罗特金罕住下，要到埃及去，躲避迦勒底人。他们惧怕迦勒底人，因为尼探雅的儿子以实玛利杀了巴比伦王所立管理那地的亚希甘的儿子基大利。
