“ This is to be the boundary of the land:“ On the north side it will run from the Mediterranean Sea by the Hethlon road past Lebo Hamath to Zedad,Berothah and Sibraim( which lies on the border between Damascus and Hamath), as far as Hazer Hattikon, which is on the border of Hauran.The boundary will extend from the sea to Hazar Enan, along the northern border of Damascus, with the border of Hamath to the north. The seventh lot came out for the tribe of Dan according to its clans.The territory of their inheritance included: Zorah, Eshtaol, Ir Shemesh,Shaalabbin, Aijalon, Ithlah,Elon, Timnah, Ekron,Eltekeh, Gibbethon, Baalath,Jehud, Bene Berak, Gath Rimmon,Me Jarkon and Rakkon, with the area facing Joppa.( When the territory of the Danites was lost to them, they went up and attacked Leshem, took it, put it to the sword and occupied it. They settled in Leshem and named it Dan after their ancestor.) (niv)

So the Danites went their way, and Micah, seeing that they were too strong for him, turned around and went back home.Then they took what Micah had made, and his priest, and went on to Laish, against a people at peace and secure. They attacked them with the sword and burned down their city.There was no one to rescue them because they lived a long way from Sidon and had no relationship with anyone else. The city was in a valley near Beth Rehob. The Danites rebuilt the city and settled there.They named it Dan after their ancestor Dan, who was born to Israel— though the city used to be called Laish.
