“ These are the tribes, listed by name: At the northern frontier, Dan will have one portion; it will follow the Hethlon road to Lebo Hamath; Hazar Enan and the northern border of Damascus next to Hamath will be part of its border from the east side to the west side.

Hazar Enan will be part of the border. So will the northern border of Damascus next to Hamath. Dan’s northern border will run from east to west.

“ These are the names of the tribes: Beginning at the northern extreme, beside the way of Hethlon to Lebo-hamath, as far as Hazar-enan( which is on the northern border of Damascus over against Hamath), and extending from the east side to the west, Dan, one portion.

“ Here is the list of the tribes of Israel and the territory each is to receive. The territory of Dan is in the extreme north. Its boundary line follows the Hethlon road to Lebo hamath and then runs on to Hazar enan on the border of Damascus, with Hamath to the north. Dan’s territory extends all the way across the land of Israel from east to west.

“ Now these are the names of the tribes: From the northern end, along the road of Hethlon, to Lebo-hamath as far as Hazar-enon, at the northern border of Damascus, alongside Hamath and extending from the eastern side to the sea, will be Dan— one portion.

“ Now these are the names of the tribes: from the northern extremity, beside the way of Hethlon to Lebo hamath, as far as Hazar enan at the border of Damascus, toward the north beside Hamath, running from east to west, Dan, one portion.

Now these[ are] the names of the tribes. From the north end to the coast of the way of Hethlon, as one goeth to Hamath, Hazarenan, the border of Damascus northward, to the coast of Hamath; for these are his sides east[ and] west; a[ portion for] Dan.

“ These are the names of the tribes: From the northern end beside the road of Hethlon to Lebo-hamath, as far as Hazar-enan( which is on the border of Damascus, toward the north beside Hamath), extending from the east side to the west, Dan will have one portion.

“ Now these are the names of the tribes: From the north end, beside the way of Hethlon to the entrance of Hamath, Hazar Enan at the border of Damascus, northward beside Hamath( and they shall have their sides east and west), Dan, one portion.

“ This shall be the border of the land on the north: from the Great Sea, by the road to Hethlon, as one goes to Zedad,Hamath, Berothah, Sibraim( which is between the border of Damascus and the border of Hamath), to Hazar Hatticon( which is on the border of Hauran).Thus the boundary shall be from the Sea to Hazar Enan, the border of Damascus; and as for the north, northward, it is the border of Hamath. This is the north side.

The seventh lot came out for the tribe of the children of Dan according to their families.And the territory of their inheritance was Zorah, Eshtaol, Ir Shemesh,Shaalabbin, Aijalon, Jethlah,Elon, Timnah, Ekron,Eltekeh, Gibbethon, Baalath,Jehud, Bene Berak, Gath Rimmon,Me Jarkon, and Rakkon, with the region near Joppa.And the border of the children of Dan went beyond these, because the children of Dan went up to fight against Leshem and took it; and they struck it with the edge of the sword, took possession of it, and dwelt in it. They called Leshem, Dan, after the name of Dan their father.

And I heard the number of those who were sealed. One hundred and forty-four thousand of all the tribes of the children of Israel were sealed:of the tribe of Judah twelve thousand were sealed; of the tribe of Reuben twelve thousand were sealed; of the tribe of Gad twelve thousand were sealed;of the tribe of Asher twelve thousand were sealed; of the tribe of Naphtali twelve thousand were sealed; of the tribe of Manasseh twelve thousand were sealed;of the tribe of Simeon twelve thousand were sealed; of the tribe of Levi twelve thousand were sealed; of the tribe of Issachar twelve thousand were sealed;of the tribe of Zebulun twelve thousand were sealed; of the tribe of Joseph twelve thousand were sealed; of the tribe of Benjamin twelve thousand were sealed.

Is it not lawful for me to do what I wish with my own things? Or is your eye evil because I am good?’So the last will be first, and the first last. For many are called, but few chosen.”

Now these are the names of the children of Israel who came to Egypt; each man and his household came with Jacob:Reuben, Simeon, Levi, and Judah;Issachar, Zebulun, and Benjamin;Dan, Naphtali, Gad, and Asher.All those who were descendants of Jacob were seventy persons( for Joseph was in Egypt already).

‘ And this shall be your northern border: From the Great Sea you shall mark out your border line to Mount Hor;from Mount Hor you shall mark out your border to the entrance of Hamath; then the direction of the border shall be toward Zedad;the border shall proceed to Ziphron, and it shall end at Hazar Enan. This shall be your northern border.

“ These are the names of the men who shall stand with you: from Reuben, Elizur the son of Shedeur;from Simeon, Shelumiel the son of Zurishaddai;from Judah, Nahshon the son of Amminadab;from Issachar, Nethanel the son of Zuar;from Zebulun, Eliab the son of Helon;from the sons of Joseph: from Ephraim, Elishama the son of Ammihud; from Manasseh, Gamaliel the son of Pedahzur;from Benjamin, Abidan the son of Gideoni;from Dan, Ahiezer the son of Ammishaddai;from Asher, Pagiel the son of Ocran;from Gad, Eliasaph the son of Deuel;from Naphtali, Ahira the son of Enan.”

Then the children of Dan went their way. And when Micah saw that they were too strong for him, he turned and went back to his house.So they took the things Micah had made, and the priest who had belonged to him, and went to Laish, to a people quiet and secure; and they struck them with the edge of the sword and burned the city with fire.There was no deliverer, because it was far from Sidon, and they had no ties with anyone. It was in the valley that belongs to Beth Rehob. So they rebuilt the city and dwelt there.And they called the name of the city Dan, after the name of Dan their father, who was born to Israel. However, the name of the city formerly was Laish.

Therefore the king asked advice, made two calves of gold, and said to the people,“ It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem. Here are your gods, O Israel, which brought you up from the land of Egypt!”And he set up one in Bethel, and the other he put in Dan.

“ The west side shall be the Great Sea, from the southern boundary until one comes to a point opposite Hamath. This is the west side.

So the king said to Joab the commander of the army who was with him,“ Now go throughout all the tribes of Israel, from Dan to Beersheba, and count the people, that I may know the number of the people.”

So she said,“ Here is my maid Bilhah; go in to her, and she will bear a child on my knees, that I also may have children by her.”Then she gave him Bilhah her maid as wife, and Jacob went in to her.And Bilhah conceived and bore Jacob a son.Then Rachel said,“ God has judged my case; and He has also heard my voice and given me a son.” Therefore she called his name Dan.

Now these were their names: from the tribe of Reuben, Shammua the son of Zaccur;from the tribe of Simeon, Shaphat the son of Hori;from the tribe of Judah, Caleb the son of Jephunneh;from the tribe of Issachar, Igal the son of Joseph;from the tribe of Ephraim, Hoshea the son of Nun;from the tribe of Benjamin, Palti the son of Raphu;from the tribe of Zebulun, Gaddiel the son of Sodi;from the tribe of Joseph, that is, from the tribe of Manasseh, Gaddi the son of Susi;from the tribe of Dan, Ammiel the son of Gemalli;from the tribe of Asher, Sethur the son of Michael;from the tribe of Naphtali, Nahbi the son of Vophsi;from the tribe of Gad, Geuel the son of Machi.
