“ These are the names of the tribes: Beginning at the northern extreme, beside the way of Hethlon to Lebo-hamath, as far as Hazar-enan( which is on the northern border of Damascus over against Hamath), and extending from the east side to the west, Dan, one portion.

“ Here is the list of the tribes of Israel and the territory each is to receive. The territory of Dan is in the extreme north. Its boundary line follows the Hethlon road to Lebo hamath and then runs on to Hazar enan on the border of Damascus, with Hamath to the north. Dan’s territory extends all the way across the land of Israel from east to west.

“ Now these are the names of the tribes: From the northern end, along the road of Hethlon, to Lebo-hamath as far as Hazar-enon, at the northern border of Damascus, alongside Hamath and extending from the eastern side to the sea, will be Dan— one portion.

“ Now these are the names of the tribes: from the northern extremity, beside the way of Hethlon to Lebo hamath, as far as Hazar enan at the border of Damascus, toward the north beside Hamath, running from east to west, Dan, one portion.

“ Now these are the names of the tribes: From the northern border along the road to Hethlon at the entrance of Hamath, to Hazar Enan, the border of Damascus northward, in the direction of Hamath, there shall be one section for Dan from its east to its west side;

“ Now these are the names of the tribes: From the northern end, along the road of Hethlon, to Lebo-hamath as far as Hazar-enon, at the northern border of Damascus, alongside Hamath and extending from the eastern side to the sea, will be Dan— one portion.

Now these[ are] the names of the tribes. From the north end to the coast of the way of Hethlon, as one goeth to Hamath, Hazarenan, the border of Damascus northward, to the coast of Hamath; for these are his sides east[ and] west; a[ portion for] Dan.

“ These are the names of the tribes: From the northern end beside the road of Hethlon to Lebo-hamath, as far as Hazar-enan( which is on the border of Damascus, toward the north beside Hamath), extending from the east side to the west, Dan will have one portion.

“ Now these are the names of the tribes: From the north end, beside the way of Hethlon to the entrance of Hamath, Hazar Enan at the border of Damascus, northward beside Hamath( and they shall have their sides east and west), Dan, one portion.

And this shall be the border of the land: On the north side, from the great sea, by the way of Hethlon, unto the entrance of Zedad;Hamath, Berothah, Sibraim, which is between the border of Damascus and the border of Hamath; Hazer- hatticon, which is by the border of Hauran.And the border from the sea, shall be Hazar- enon at the border of Damascus; and on the north northward is the border of Hamath. This is the north side.

The seventh lot came out for the tribe of the children of Dan according to their families.And the border of their inheritance was Zorah, and Eshtaol, and Ir- shemesh,and Shaalabbin, and Aijalon, and Ithlah,and Elon, and Timnah, and Ekron,and Eltekeh, and Gibbethon, and Baalath,and Jehud, and Bene- berak, and Gath- rimmon,and Me- jarkon, and Rakkon, with the border over against Joppa.And the border of the children of Dan went out beyond them; for the children of Dan went up and fought against Leshem, and took it, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and possessed it, and dwelt therein, and called Leshem, Dan, after the name of Dan their father.

And I heard the number of them that were sealed, a hundred and forty and four thousand, sealed out of every tribe of the children of Israel:Of the tribe of Judah were sealed twelve thousand; Of the tribe of Reuben twelve thousand; Of the tribe of Gad twelve thousand;Of the tribe of Asher twelve thousand; Of the tribe of Naphtali twelve thousand; Of the tribe of Manasseh twelve thousand;Of the tribe of Simeon twelve thousand; Of the tribe of Levi twelve thousand; Of the tribe of Issachar twelve thousand;Of the tribe of Zebulun twelve thousand; Of the tribe of Joseph twelve thousand; Of the tribe of Benjamin were sealed twelve thousand.

Is it not lawful for me to do what I will with mine own? or is thine eye evil, because I am good?So the last shall be first, and the first last.

Now these are the names of the sons of Israel, who came into Egypt( every man and his household came with Jacob):Reuben, Simeon, Levi, and Judah,Issachar, Zebulun, and Benjamin,Dan and Naphtali, Gad and Asher.And all the souls that came out of the loins of Jacob were seventy souls: and Joseph was in Egypt already.

And this shall be your north border: from the great sea ye shall mark out for you mount Hor;from mount Hor ye shall mark out unto the entrance of Hamath; and the goings out of the border shall be at Zedad;and the border shall go forth to Ziphron, and the goings out thereof shall be at Hazar- enan: this shall be your north border.

And these are the names of the men that shall stand with you. Of Reuben: Elizur the son of Shedeur.Of Simeon: Shelumiel the son of Zurishaddai.Of Judah: Nahshon the son of Amminadab.Of Issachar: Nethanel the son of Zuar.Of Zebulun: Eliab the son of Helon.Of the children of Joseph: Of Ephraim: Elishama the son of Ammihud. Of Manasseh: Gamaliel the son of Pedahzur.Of Benjamin: Abidan the son of Gideoni.Of Dan: Ahiezer the son of Ammishaddai.Of Asher: Pagiel the son of Ochran.Of Gad: Eliasaph the son of Deuel.Of Naphtali: Ahira the son of Enan.

And the children of Dan went their way: and when Micah saw that they were too strong for him, he turned and went back unto his house.And they took that which Micah had made, and the priest whom he had, and came unto Laish, unto a people quiet and secure, and smote them with the edge of the sword; and they burnt the city with fire.And there was no deliverer, because it was far from Sidon, and they had no dealings with any man; and it was in the valley that lieth by Beth- rehob. And they built the city, and dwelt therein.And they called the name of the city Dan, after the name of Dan their father, who was born unto Israel: howbeit the name of the city was Laish at the first.

Whereupon the king took counsel, and made two calves of gold; and he said unto them, It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem: behold thy gods, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.And he set the one in Beth- el, and the other put he in Dan.

And the west side shall be the great sea, from the south border as far as over against the entrance of Hamath. This is the west side.

And the king said to Joab the captain of the host, who was with him, Go now to and fro through all the tribes of Israel, from Dan even to Beer- sheba, and number ye the people, that I may know the sum of the people.

And she said, Behold, my maid Bilhah, go in unto her; that she may bear upon my knees, and I also may obtain children by her.And she gave him Bilhah her handmaid to wife: and Jacob went in unto her.And Bilhah conceived, and bare Jacob a son.And Rachel said, God hath judged me, and hath also heard my voice, and hath given me a son: therefore called she his name Dan.
