置其門閾於我閾旁、置其門柱於我柱側、彼我之間、祇間一垣、且行可惡之事、污我聖名、致我震怒、而殲滅之、

昔斯民以其殿之門柱門橛與我殿之門柱門橛相連、惟間以壁、恆作不端、玷我聖名、故我震怒、殲滅殆盡、

昔斯民使其門閾附我門閾、使其門柱附我門柱、彼與我間、惟隔一壁、行可憎之事、瀆我聖名、故我震怒以殲滅之、

When they placed their threshold next to my threshold and their doorposts beside my doorposts, with only a wall between me and them, they defiled my holy name by their detestable practices. So I destroyed them in my anger.

The people of Israel placed their own doorway next to my holy doorway. They put their doorposts right beside mine. Nothing but a thin wall separated us. They treated my name as if it were not holy. I hated it when they did that. So I became angry with them and destroyed them.

He put an idolatrous image he had made in God’s temple, about which God had said to David and to his son Solomon,“ This temple in Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, will be my permanent home.

When you bring foreigners, those uncircumcised in heart and in flesh, into my sanctuary, you desecrate it– even my house– when you offer my food, the fat and the blood. You have broken my covenant by all your abominable practices.

He built altars in the LORD’s temple, about which the LORD had said,“ Jerusalem will be my permanent home.”

He stretched out the form of a hand and grabbed me by a lock of hair on my head. Then a wind lifted me up between the earth and sky and brought me to Jerusalem by means of divine visions, to the door of the inner gate which faces north where the statue which provokes to jealousy was located.Then I perceived that the glory of the God of Israel was there, as in the vision I had seen earlier in the valley.He said to me,“ Son of man, look up toward the north.” So I looked up toward the north, and I noticed to the north of the altar gate was this statue of jealousy at the entrance.He said to me,“ Son of man, do you see what they are doing– the great abominations that the people of Israel are practicing here, to drive me far from my sanctuary? But you will see greater abominations than these!”He brought me to the entrance of the court, and as I watched, I noticed a hole in the wall.He said to me,“ Son of man, dig into the wall.” So I dug into the wall and discovered a doorway.He said to me,“ Go in and see the evil abominations they are practicing here.”So I went in and looked. I noticed every figure of creeping thing and beast– detestable images– and every idol of the house of Israel, engraved on the wall all around.Seventy men from the elders of the house of Israel( with Jaazaniah son of Shaphan standing among them) were standing in front of them, each with a censer in his hand, and fragrant vapors from a cloud of incense were swirling upward.He said to me,“ Do you see, son of man, what the elders of the house of Israel are doing in the dark, each in the chamber of his idolatrous images? For they think,‘ The LORD does not see us! The LORD has abandoned the land!’”He said to me,“ You will see them practicing even greater abominations!”Then he brought me to the entrance of the north gate of the LORD’s house. I noticed women sitting there weeping for Tammuz.He said to me,“ Do you see this, son of man? You will see even greater abominations than these!”Then he brought me to the inner court of the LORD’s house. Right there at the entrance to the LORD’s temple, between the porch and the altar, were about twenty-five men with their backs to the LORD’s temple, facing east– they were worshiping the sun toward the east!

He built altars in the LORD’s temple, about which the LORD had said,“ Jerusalem will be my home.”In the two courtyards of the LORD’s temple he built altars for all the stars in the sky.He passed his son through the fire and practiced divination and omen reading. He set up a ritual pit to conjure up underworld spirits, and appointed magicians to supervise it. He did a great amount of evil in the sight of the LORD, provoking him to anger.He put an idol of Asherah he had made in the temple, about which the LORD had said to David and to his son Solomon,“ This temple in Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, will be my permanent home.

He moved the bronze altar that stood in the LORD’s presence from the front of the temple( between the altar and the LORD’s temple) and put it on the north side of the new altar.King Ahaz ordered Uriah the priest,“ On the large altar offer the morning burnt sacrifice, the evening grain offering, the royal burnt sacrifices and grain offering, the burnt sacrifice for all the people of Israel, their grain offering, and their libations. Sprinkle all the blood of the burnt sacrifice and other sacrifices on it. The bronze altar will be for my personal use.”

On the same day they slaughtered their sons for their idols, they came to my sanctuary to desecrate it. This is what they have done in the middle of my house.

He removed from the entrance to the LORD’s temple the statues of horses that the kings of Judah had placed there in honor of the sun god.( They were kept near the room of Nathan Melech the eunuch, which was situated among the courtyards.) He burned up the chariots devoted to the sun god.The king tore down the altars the kings of Judah had set up on the roof of Ahaz’s upper room, as well as the altars Manasseh had set up in the two courtyards of the LORD’s temple. He crushed them up and threw the dust in the Kidron Valley.
