昔斯民以其殿之門柱門橛與我殿之門柱門橛相連、惟間以壁、恆作不端、玷我聖名、故我震怒、殲滅殆盡、

昔斯民使其門閾附我門閾、使其門柱附我門柱、彼與我間、惟隔一壁、行可憎之事、瀆我聖名、故我震怒以殲滅之、

When they placed their threshold next to my threshold and their doorposts beside my doorposts, with only a wall between me and them, they defiled my holy name by their detestable practices. So I destroyed them in my anger.

The people of Israel placed their own doorway next to my holy doorway. They put their doorposts right beside mine. Nothing but a thin wall separated us. They treated my name as if it were not holy. I hated it when they did that. So I became angry with them and destroyed them.

Then he put the carved image of the idol which he had made in the house of God, of which God had said to David and his son Solomon,“ In this house and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen from all the tribes of Israel, I will put My name forever;

when you brought in foreigners, uncircumcised in heart and uncircumcised in flesh, to be in My sanctuary to profane it, My house, when you offered My food, the fat, and the blood and they broke My covenant— this in addition to all your abominations.

He built altars in the house of the Lord of which the Lord had said,“ My name shall be in Jerusalem forever.”

And He extended the form of a hand and took me by the hair of my head; and the Spirit lifted me up between earth and heaven and brought me in the visions of God to Jerusalem, to the entrance of the north gate of the inner courtyard, where the seat of the idol of jealousy, which provokes to jealousy, was located.And behold, the glory of the God of Israel was there, like the appearance which I saw in the plain.Then He said to me,“ Son of man, raise your eyes now toward the north.” So I raised my eyes toward the north, and behold, to the north of the altar gate was this idol of jealousy at the entrance.And He said to me,“ Son of man, do you see what they are doing, the great abominations which the house of Israel are committing here, so that I would be far from My sanctuary? But yet you will see still greater abominations!”Then He brought me to the entrance of the courtyard, and when I looked, behold, a hole in the wall.And He said to me,“ Son of man, now dig through the wall.” So I dug through the wall, and behold, an entrance.Then He said to me,“ Go in and see the wicked abominations that they are committing here.”So I entered and looked, and behold, every form of crawling things and animals and detestable things, with all the idols of the house of Israel, were carved on the wall all around.And standing in front of them were seventy elders of the house of Israel, with Jaazaniah the son of Shaphan standing among them, each man with his censer in his hand; and the fragrance of the cloud of incense was rising.Then He said to me,“ Do you see, son of man, what the elders of the house of Israel are doing in the dark, each man in the rooms of his carved images? For they say,‘ The Lord does not see us; the Lord has abandoned the land.’ ”And He said to me,“ Yet you will see still greater abominations which they are committing!”Then He brought me to the entrance of the gate of the Lord’s house which was toward the north; and behold, women were sitting there weeping for Tammuz.And He said to me,“ Do you see this, son of man? Yet you will see still greater abominations than these!”Then He brought me into the inner courtyard of the Lord’s house. And behold, at the entrance to the temple of the Lord, between the porch and the altar, were about twenty five men with their backs to the temple of the Lord while their faces were toward the east; and they were prostrating themselves eastward toward the sun.

And he built altars in the house of the Lord, of which the Lord had said,“ In Jerusalem I will put My name.”He built altars for all the heavenly lights in the two courtyards of the house of the Lord.And he made his son pass through the fire, interpreted signs, practiced divination, and used mediums and spiritists. He did great evil in the sight of the Lord, provoking Him to anger.Then he put the carved image of Asherah that he had made in the house of which the Lord had said to David and to his son Solomon,“ In this house and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen from all the tribes of Israel, I will put My name forever.

And the bronze altar, which was before the Lord, he brought from the front of the house, from between his altar and the house of the Lord, and he put it on the north side of his altar.Then King Ahaz commanded Urijah the priest, saying,“ Upon the great altar burn the morning burnt offering, the evening meal offering, the king’s burnt offering and his meal offering, with the burnt offering of all the people of the land, their meal offering, and their drink offerings; and sprinkle on it all the blood of the burnt offering and all the blood of the sacrifice. But the bronze altar shall be for me, for making inquiries.”

For when they slaughtered their children for their idols, they entered My sanctuary on the same day to profane it; and behold, this is what they did within My house.

And he did away with the horses that the kings of Judah had given to the sun, at the entrance of the house of the Lord, by the chamber of Nathan melech the official, which was at the covered courtyard; and he burned the chariots of the sun with fire.The king also tore down the altars that were on the roof, the upper chamber of Ahaz, which the kings of Judah had made, and the altars which Manasseh had made in the two courtyards of the house of the Lord; and he smashed them there and threw their dust into the brook Kidron.
