When you spread out your hands in prayer, I will refuse to look at you; even if you offer countless prayers, I will not listen. Your hands are covered with blood.

“ Many nations will pass by this city and ask one another,‘ Why did the LORD do such a thing to this great city?’They will answer,‘ Because they abandoned the covenant of the LORD their God and bowed in worship to other gods and served them.’”

I will bring a sword against you to execute the vengeance of the covenant. Though you withdraw into your cities, I will send a pestilence among you, and you will be delivered into enemy hands.

I will no longer hide my face from them, for I will pour out my Spirit on the house of Israel.” This is the declaration of the Lord GOD.

He said,“ I will hide my face from them; I will see what will become of them, for they are a perverse generation— unfaithful children.

How could one pursue a thousand, or two put ten thousand to flight, unless their Rock had sold them, unless the LORD had given them up?

LORD, why do you stand so far away? Why do you hide in times of trouble?

The LORD’s anger burned against Israel, and he handed them over to marauders who raided them. He sold them to the enemies around them, and they could no longer resist their enemies.

Jerusalem has sinned grievously; therefore, she has become an object of scorn. All who honored her now despise her, for they have seen her nakedness. She herself groans and turns away.

The people coming to fight the Chaldeans will fill the houses with the corpses of their own men that I strike down in my wrath and fury. I have hidden my face from this city because of all their evil.

My anger will burn against them on that day; I will abandon them and hide my face from them so that they will become easy prey. Many troubles and afflictions will come to them. On that day they will say,‘ Haven’t these troubles come to us because our God is no longer with us?’I will certainly hide my face on that day because of all the evil they have done by turning to other gods.

LORD, when you showed your favor, you made me stand like a strong mountain; when you hid your face, I was terrified.

They hiss and gnash their teeth, saying,“ We have swallowed her up. This is the day we have waited for! We have lived to see it.”The LORD has done what he planned; he has accomplished his decree, which he ordained in days of old. He has demolished without compassion, letting the enemy gloat over you and exalting the horn of your adversaries.

As for this temple, which was exalted, everyone who passes by will be appalled and will say,“ Why did the LORD do this to this land and this temple?”Then they will say,“ Because they abandoned the LORD God of their ancestors who brought them out of the land of Egypt. They clung to other gods and bowed in worship to them and served them. Because of this, he brought all this ruin on them.”

No one calls on your name, striving to take hold of you. For you have hidden your face from us and made us melt because of our iniquity.

I will wait for the LORD, who is hiding his face from the house of Jacob. I will wait for him.

Who gave Jacob to the robber, and Israel to the plunderers? Was it not the LORD? Have we not sinned against him? They were not willing to walk in his ways, and they would not listen to his instruction.

So I poured out my wrath on them because of the blood they had shed on the land, and because they had defiled it with their idols.I dispersed them among the nations, and they were scattered among the countries. I judged them according to their conduct and actions.When they came to the nations where they went, they profaned my holy name, because it was said about them,‘ These are the people of the LORD, yet they had to leave his land in exile.’Then I had concern for my holy name, which the house of Israel profaned among the nations where they went.“ Therefore, say to the house of Israel,‘ This is what the Lord GOD says: It is not for your sake that I will act, house of Israel, but for my holy name, which you profaned among the nations where you went.I will honor the holiness of my great name, which has been profaned among the nations— the name you have profaned among them. The nations will know that I am the LORD— this is the declaration of the Lord GOD— when I demonstrate my holiness through you in their sight.

The LORD’s anger burned against Israel, and he sold them to King Cushan-rishathaim of Aram-naharaim, and the Israelites served him eight years.

Then the nations that remain around you will know that I, the LORD, have rebuilt what was demolished and have replanted what was desolate. I, the LORD, have spoken and I will do it.
